Earlier last month, my family had our very first trip to Disneyland!!!!! Needless to say, this was a “dream come true” trip for me. Our party included myself, my husband, our 2 boys (6 & 11) and my mom.

I pay attention to almost everything Disney, some things more than others. While preparing for this trip, I learned about 2 new experiences during the month of August in the Disneyland park. They were the “Quest for Jujus”, located at the Adventure Trading Company in Adventureland and the “Legends of Frontierland”. I was really excited to try these since this is something not available in WDW. We have played both Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom and “A Pirate’s Adventure ~ Treasures of the Seven Seas” in Adventureland.

What is Juju you may ask?

Here are the current 9 Jujus

According to Wiki:

Juju or Ju-Ju is a word of either West African or French origin used previously by Europeans to describe traditional West African religions.Today it refers specifically to objects, such as amulets, and spells used superstitiously as part of witchcraft in West Africa.

We were told by the Disneyland Cast Member that there were 9 quests for special charms and each one had it’s own unique power and quest. That sounded fun! We were about to go on the Jungle Cruise and they had a quest that fit that attraction.  I went into the Outpost and purchased the quest along with the Eye of Mara quest. Along with the quest we all got stickers with our Adventure’s name on them. We kept these on for the rest of the day and it was fun to have people ask what the names were all about. There was only one flaw with of the 9 quests, they did cost money. Six cost $5 and three cost $7.50 (because they were included with food). To get all 9, the initial investment was $52.50 with no repeats. We decided early on we each didn’t need a full set of Jujus and we would divide the 9 later.  That being said, because we could split them up, I feel the fee wasn’t that bad and it kept the crowd and each quest location to a manageable size. If we each wanted a set, that would have been an insane expense.

I am going to briefly touch on most of them, but for the sake of time, I will just give you our highlights.

The quest difficulty ranged from eating or drinking something to finding birds around the park to completing an activity and telling a joke.  I feel they did this so that a wide age range in a family could complete a quest.

The first quest was easy. My 6 year old had no trouble completing the activity book and telling the joke to get his piranha Juju. Next, it was my turn to find the Eye of Mara. I had to make a rubbing and decode a message. This would have worked better if the pencil I used was a better color. The nice Cast Member helped me out with a better key and I got my Juju. Next, we tried 2 food Jujus – a dole whip pineapple upside down dessert, which gave us the pineapple Juju, and some stickers to hand out to other guests doing good deeds as we saw fit around the park. Lastly, my 11 year old wanted to show he was brave and tried the Snake Venomade to get the cool snake Juju. Both of these Jujus were repeated on a different day because they were “so delicious” according to the boys – and the extra Jujus were a bonus!

These quests were quick and easy to do, but we wanted to save some for the next day. This left us with 5 quests still to be done. We decided to go back over to Adventureland early the next day and get the 5 remaining quests to complete  throughout the day. Thanks to a nice Cast Member, we learned that the Ingredients Quest for the Tiki Idol Juju from Trader Sams needed to be started in Adventureland and that really helped save us some time.

I think the Tiki Room bird Juju was one of the most creative quests. We had to take pictures of 5 birds through out the park and show them to a Cast member at the Tiki Room to claim the Juju. We had a lot of fun working together and being creative. I loved that the phone number in the article about the Lost Juju actually worked and gave you useful information to complete your quest. The Tiki Idol Juju was a small hurdle for us, since we were not staying at the Disneyland Hotel. Being from a WDW mind set, I totally thought we could just take a bus over to the resort. This is so not the case. After figuring the transportation out, we made it and this was the other drink to purchase (a non-alcoholic beverage) to get the Juju. We did not like this one as much as the Venomade.

All in all, we loved this extra at the park. This was only available until August 30th but I hope it comes back again and maybe even to WDW so we can enjoy more quests on our next trip.

Now, in the spirit of the pineapple Juju, I have one friendship sticker left to give. This will be a Rafflecopter giveaway. Thanks all for reading and good luck.

  1. I wasn’t able to visit Disneyland last month to experience the Adventure Trading Company but it’s so much fun to read about it. Thanks for sharing!
