Los Angeles Premiere Of Walt Disney Animation Studios' "Big Hero 6" - Red Carpet

Since the first sneak-peek we had of Walt Disney Animation Studio’s newest release, Big Hero 6 and the short, Feast, I have been hooked. Whether it was Winston’s lovable antics in Feast, or San Fransokyo’s faint resemblance of anime in Big Hero 6, I have eagerly awaited this release and I can tell you it is a movie that you should see. It was a movie I *HAD* to see. A word of advice, as with all Disney movies, stay through the final credits. They may be long, but the music is great and there is a surprise waiting!

FEAST

Feast,” a new short from first-time director Patrick Osborne (head of animation, “Paperman”) and Walt Disney Animation Studios, is the story of one man’s love life as seen through the eyes of his best friend and dog, Winston, and revealed bite by bite through the meals they share.

Feast is an adorable tale, showing the love between man and dog. The sweet, simple message of love is apparent. Love and loyalty are strong between friends. Winston is an adorable puppy that will make even the strongest cat-lover want a puppy!

From Walt Disney Animation Studios, the team behind “Frozen” and “Wreck-It Ralph,” comes “Big Hero 6,” an action-packed comedy-adventure about the special bond that develops between Baymax (voice of Scott Adsit), a plus-sized inflatable robot, and prodigy Hiro Hamada (voice of Ryan Potter). When a devastating event befalls the city of San Fransokyo and catapults Hiro into the midst of danger, he turns to Baymax and his close friends adrenaline junkie Go Go Tomago (voice of Jamie Chung), neatnik Wasabi (voice of Damon Wayans Jr.), chemistry whiz Honey Lemon (voice of Genesis Rodriguez) and fanboy Fred (voice of T.J. Miller). Determined to uncover the mystery, Hiro transforms his friends into a band of high-tech heroes called “Big Hero 6.”

Los Angeles Premiere Of Walt Disney Animation Studios' "Big Hero 6" - Red CarpetBig Hero 6 is a movie that could easily find its way into the heart of any die-hard princess fan, while still able to captivate any super-hero fan. The messages this movie sends out are very real and uplifting and have the potential for real-life discussions. Baymax is completely lovable and the characters that make up “Big Hero 6” are role models you will want your children to emulate.

The Characters

The diverse characters of Big Hero 6 are smart, college “nerds” that find science fun, improving the world, one invention at a time! In a wonderful and refreshing twist, Honey Lemon and Go-Go Tomago are female heroes you will want your little girls to look up to. Honey Lemon is your typical “pretty girl” with a funky fashion sense, but don’t let that fool you! Honey has a vast knowledge of alchemy and a determination not to let the team down. Go-Go is a spitfire; an athletic girl who’s speed and loyalty will resonate with young girls alike, she knows how to get the job done.

BIG HERO 6The men of Big Hero 6 have their own unique blend of humor and personalities. Hiro is a young boy of 14, who is well beyond smart for his age. Wasabi, a super smart neurotic, shows that even nice guys in sweaters can have a tough side. Rounding out this trio is Fred, the comic book loving, sign spinning, college fan-boy who will have you laughing.  Don’t let him fool you – he has a purpose!

The Action

This movie is action-packed. From.The.Beginning. There are two climatic scenes that may require a small child to climb in your lap. There are also a few scenes that can be intense at times, but with a little reassurance, your smaller children should be okay. My die-hard, princess-loving, pink dress wearing NDK (7),who does NOT like scary movies, sat glued to the screen for the entire movie, hardly touching her popcorn! There were a few times she needed to hold a hand, but overall did well. I will warn, without spoiling anything, there is one climatic scene towards the end that had her in absolute tears. When I say tears, I mean like when you watched the first 10 minutes of UP! kind of tears.  As a mom, it was so hard to watch her cry like that, but afterwards, she crawled in my lap and we took advantage of discussing life lessons. I promise the movie does not end on a tragic note – it is a Disney movie after all. 🙂

At first glance, Baymax seems to be a mere inflatable, but his personality will prove otherwise. He is a lovable big, white balloon known as a Healthcare Companion. Baymax was the creation of Hiro’s brother, Tadashi, as a robotics project and a way to revolutionize the healthcare industry. After Tadashi’s death, Baymax reminds us that our loved ones are never truly gone, they are always with us.

Overall, this movie was a hit with our whole family. Even NDD, who was very skeptical about this film, left the theater ready to make the Blu-Ray purchase!

Have you seen Big Hero 6 yet? What did you think? Will Baymax or Winston be under your Christmas tree this year?
