Disney and Weddings and Newbies… OH MY !

Genevieve is an Orlando based writer with a love for her adopted city. Growing up in Canada, she would dream about her next Disney adventure. After marrying a fellow Disney Geek, they picked up their life and moved to Orlando. When she isn’t found roaming the parks, she is sitting at her desk writing about them. Disney consumes her life, and she wouldn’t want it any other way. Always on a quest for her next Dole Whip with her handsome husband Ryan.

I have to confess I have two major obsessions; Disney and Weddings. If I’m not touring the theme parks, I can be found searching the web for the newest wedding trends. When I saw Disney Driven Life was searching for a new wedding contributor, my mind almost exploded. After all, I have been writing professionally about weddings and Disney separately for years. The idea of getting to combine them makes me so excited. When I got married, I seriously considered wearing Mickey Ears down the aisle. It didn’t matter to me I was getting married in one of North America’s largest and most historic Roman Catholic Churches. My mother convinced me there might be a more subtle way to include my fandom.  In each upcoming article we will take a look at how you can include Disney into your magical day.

Ladies, your new spouse-to-be may call you their princess, but did you know you could purchase an actual Disney inspired dress? Alfred Angelo has a stunning line of signature gowns. Each captures the essence of a Disney Princess. They are simply stunning and are perfect for the sophisticated bride who is a child at heart.

OK let’s be honest here, brides have different tastes, and come in different sizes. So the dresses in the collection offer a variety of styles. Some, like the 2015 collection Ariel Gown, really captures The Little Mermaid’s style. It is fitted from the top down to the hips, and flares out like a mermaids tail. For the independent bride, it even comes in “Ocean Blue”. I think it’s fantastic. This crystal-beaded gown shimmers like scales in the sunlight.

I have to advise you to shop by style, and not your favorite character. Not because I don’t want you to be your childhood hero, but because not every style will not look magical on every body type. There are some dresses that are not body forgiving. I love Belle, and she is, hands down, my favorite princess. The 2014 collection Belle dress would make me look more like Mrs. Potts. Plus, the dress is embellished with rhinestones, crystal beading, sequins, and pearls. Way to busy for this lady with a simpler style.

What I love most about these dresses is it can be a grand statement of your love for Disney, or a secret just for you. It’s your choice to tell everyone it’s a princess dress or not. So much of your wedding planning is for everyone else. You pick the food, venue and style usually to please someone else. Do this just for you. Every girl is a princess at heart, and on your wedding day, you get to be one on the outside too.

You don’t need to have a wedding to dress like a princess. You can be a princess every day! Shopping by style and not by character is excellent advice. 😀
