**Disclaimer – I received these books for review purposes from the Disney Book Group. All opinions are my own.

Story time is always a favorite in this Neurotic Disney home. NDK (Neurotic Disney Kid) is old enough to read, but not too old to still be read to! Books are wonderful on so many levels. We keep them everywhere – even in the car! Disney Books are a great way to keep Disney at home. Disney Book Group was kind enough to send these books for NDK approval – be sure to look for the NDK Review after the description of each book!

NDK Review 7-6-15

Summer is in full swing! Are your little ones (and not-so-little ones) getting in their summer reading? NDK is never one to turn her nose up to a book, and especially a Disney book! Disney Publishing will be releasing these new books online and on shelves TUESDAY, July 7, 2015 – perfect for keeping the summer reading going! These books feature your child’s favorites from Disney Junior (Miles from Tomorrowland, DOc McStuffins and Henry Hugglemonster) and a new chapter book from Disney Channel hit, Girl Meets World!

  • Mighty MercMighty Merc
  • Page Count: 24 * Price $3.99

We really enjoy Miles from Tomorrowland. First, the strong female role model in a scientific role is very appealing and let’s just face it, Merc the ostrich is adorable! He is NDK’s favorite, and this story star is none other than lovable ostrich, Merc!

From the back of the book:

Miles knows that Merc is the best robot in the whole wide universe. But after a bigger, stronger new robot arrives at the Stellosphere, it seems like nobody else does. Miles doesn’t want to say good-bye to his best friend. Will he be able to prove Merc’s worth when the competition is so tough?

The NDK Review: I really liked the story because it turned out happy. Merc is my favorite. But I didn’t like that they were going to replace Merc with another robot. That made me sad. The other robot was faster and better than Merc. But I didn’t like that robot. He wasn’t as nice as Merc. At the end of the story, the family was on a planet that freezes at night time. Miles’ sister was left outside and the new robot wouldn’t let the family go out to save her. Merc came to the rescue. They sent the robot back to Tomorrowland and everyone was happy. Including me. I can’t believe they were going to replace Merc!

  • Doc Mc Stuffin's Bella's Big Break & Awesome GuyAwesome Guy to the Rescue/Bella’s Big Break
  • Page Count: 48 * Price: $5.99
  • Features TWO stories and OVER 50 stickers!

Doc McStuffins is such a favorite. I love how she cares for everything and is always trying to fix the problem. These stories are no different. Perfect for young readers or young children who need a story read to them.

From the publisher:

It’s a busy day at Doc’s clinic! First, kids can read “Righty on Lefty” and help Doc figure out why Awesome Guy isn’t feeling so awesome. Then, flip the book over and read how Doc helps Bella Ballerina when she falls and breaks her leg. This “double feature” also includes two sheets of colorful stickers for even more Doc McStuffins fun!

The NDK Review: I like these stories. Awesome Guy had Righty on Lefty Syndrome and Bella had a broken leg. I really like Doc. Her stereoscope brings toys to life. She fixes everyone and makes them better. I wish I could be like Doc. This book is fun because it is two books in one and it has stickers! A lot of stickers! Some of the stickers features scenes from the book, too!

  • The Huggleball GameThe HuggleBall Game
  • Page Count: 32 * Price: $3.99
  • World of Reading Level Pre-1

World of Reading has another great Disney Junior story. Henry Hugglemonster is the star of this pre-reader. Learning teamwork while mastering reading skills makes a perfect combination for any young reader!

From the publisher:

Go Hugglemonsters! In this roarsome Level Pre-1 reader, Henry and his friends challenge the grown-up Hugglemonsters to a game of Huggleball. When Henry and Summer are named co-captains, they must find a way to work as a team!

The NDK Review: I have seen this episode before, so it is fun to read the book after seeing the show. Henry is playing Huggleball. The whole family is on the team. Henry and Summer can’t agree on a plan, so they have to learn how to agree. When they worked together, they won the game! This book is great for anyone just learning to read.

  • follow your heart - girl meets worldFollow Your Heart – Girl Meets World
  • Page Count: 128 * Price: $5.99
  • Ages: 8-12 yrs
  • Includes 8 pages of photos from the show

In this chapter book based on the Disney Channel hit show, Riley faces an every day problem that every tween can relate to – losing cell phone privileges and having to talk to her “crush.” This is very relatable to youth these days. Dealing with every day issues that our tweens face in the real world is important in helping them understand how to deal with these real-life issues!

From the publisher:

When Riley is forced to give up her cell phone and talk face-to-face with her crush Lucas, will she connect or will she shut down? Then, when another girl tries to get Lucas’s attention, can Maya help her best friend win back her guy?

The NDK Review: This is an older kids chapter book. There are two parts to this story, and there are 8 pages of photos from the show. This was a good book. At first I thought Riley wouldn’t talk to Lucas, but once she got to the library, I had a feeling she would. The story turned out okay and everyone was happy at the end. I like the pictures in the book. They are scenes from the show. It helps me know what the people in the show look like.
