Disney voluntEAR DayLake Buena Vista, FL  – Overcast skies did not dampen the sunny spirits of people wanting to make a difference for others recently at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground. More than 150 Disney guests, Disney VoluntEARS and family members recently came together to help others and participate in Family Volunteer Day 2015.

Launched 25 years ago by the nonprofit Points of Light organization, the day celebrates families volunteering together to support their local communities.

This year, Disney VoluntEARS, guests and their family members helped Clean the World assemble hygiene kits for neighbors in Osceola County. Clean the World is a charitable organization that recycles bars of soap and surplus clean toiletries from hotels to supply 30 million bars of new soap to people in 100 countries worldwide.

Disney voluntEAR DayCast Members and guests also wrote nearly 200 postcards to U.S. servicemen and servicewomen, and colored more than 100 hospital greeting cards for sick children in Central Florida hospitals.

“We had a great time interacting with Disney’s VoluntEARS and guests,” said Madison Wilson, a representative from Clean the World. “Working with Disney hotels and resorts aids us tremendously in supplying health and hygiene products to those in need of soap all over the world.”

Kids embraced the spirit of the day, learning about compassion for others as they volunteered.

Disney Cast Member Karen Pellot and her husband brought two of their daughters to the event to continue teaching them about giving back to others.

“Volunteering teaches them that there are other people who need help,” she said. “It makes them appreciate what they have.”
