Diving in the Living Seas – Throwback Thursday

Chris W. (NDD #300) (73 Posts)

Since going to Walt Disney World and Disneyland at a young age, Chris has always enjoyed Disney music, TV shows, movies, and trips to Walt Disney World. But his appreciation of the overall Disney experience has greatly increased over the last few years. While waiting for the next chance to work on his Disney photography skills, Chris passes the time listening to Park/Resort audio, WDW podcasts, and checking out the work of other Disney photographers. To Chris, there are no bad Disney trip photographs or photographers.

Non-Disney pursuits include spending time with his wife and children, watching and listening to baseball broadcasts, and cheering for the Chicago Cubs and LSU. Chris is a third generation professional engineer in Louisiana, working mainly on asbestos, lead, mold and demolition projects. If you’ve visited the Disney parks enough, you’ve probably been picked to serve as a temporary Cast Member. I was in the movie-water scene in the Backlot Tour a couple of times, and getting 1,000+ gallons of water dumped on you is a lot of fun.

But my favorite stint as a temporary Cast Member was in 2004 when I got to scuba dive at EPCOT. In a former life I taught scuba diving with a local shop, so I jumped at the chance to dive at EPCOT.

My Dad took this Throwback Thursday photo from the viewing area, and I’m waving to my family. My parents, wife, and kids were there to cheer me on. Seeing our families on the other side of the window was a big highlight of the dive.

The photo’s a little blurry, as are most of the ones taken from his side of the window. It turns out it’s pretty difficult to take photos into an aquarium, especially if there’s a bit of movement.

I had a great time – and when the dive was over, the families got to meet up with us in a backstage area for a continued tour. Great times.
