Last week, we revisited a vintage 1970’s Walt Disney World attraction, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. I thought it would be fun to revisit the California counterpart, Disneyland’s Submarine Voyage. This attraction opened in June, 1959 and was part of a major expansion of Tomorrowland and Fantasyland. Submarine Voyage also used to feature real-live mermaids swimming in the lagoon or sunning themselves on the rocks in the middle of the lagoon in the summers of 1965-1967 – does anyone have pictures of the mermaids??
A major difference between this attraction and the Walt Disney World is the monorail tracks. The monorail at Disneyland runs through the park! The Submarine Voyage closed in September 1998 and reopened with a Finding Nemo theme in 2007.
