Skyway Over Fantasyland – Throwback Thursday

Charlene grew up watching all the classic Disney movies and dreaming of being a princess but only recently became a full-fledged Disney Fanatic when her Prince Charming finally talked her into taking their family of seven on a WDW vacation (after 10 years of begging). Now, Charlene is often found pinning Disney tips, reading Disney blogs, and strategically planning out their next Disney vacations. Out of their five children, there is only one little princess, with whom Charlene can live vicariously through, meeting Disney princesses and watching all the magical Disney fairy tales together. This week’s Throwback Thursday needs very little introduction. Please enjoy these photos I found of the Skyway over Fantasyland. Technically, this attraction was called Skyway to Tomorrowland, as it departed from Fantasyland with Tomorrowland as its destination. The Skyway was a gondola lift attraction that was very popular. It was a great way to see the park and travel between lands. I love the glimpses of other Fantasyland favorites, such as the Carousel and Pinocchio’s Village Haus. If you look carefully in the photo featuring Space Mountain in the background, you can even see an old ticket booth. I am unsure of the exact year, but from the looks of the photos, I am would say late ’70’s early ’80’s. What memories do you have of the Skyway?

Scan 7I see Space Mountain in the distance, along with the Carousel, the building for Snow White’s Scary Adventure,  and an old ticket booth!  Scan 6 Look at all the people down below. Looks to be elbow to elbow.

Scan 9

I spy It’s a Small World and the exit area of Pinocchio’s Village Haus.
