Throwback Thursday Donald Duck Disney on ice

For this week’s Throwback Thursday, it’s a celebratory stuffed plush for Donald Duck’s 50th birthday!

In going through old childhood memories, my sister stumbled upon this fabulous stuffed Donald Duck, complete with tags. Knowing that Donald Duck turned 50 in 1984, one would assume that we saw this show then. As for Sport Goofy, this is an advertisement tag for the show that followed “Happy Birthday, Donald.” According to the list of Disney on Ice Former Shows on Wikipedia, “Happy Birthday, Donald” ran in 1984 and “Sport Goofy” ran in 1985. It is possible that we saw “Sport Goofy” and the Donald Duck plush was leftover from the year before.

Magic Kingdom on Ice, or Walt Disney’s World on Ice – seems that there may have been an identity crisis back then! Either way, Wikipedia has Magic Kingdom on Ice, opening in 1983,  listed as the official title. The show was an original story line, which involved different Disney characters, which was fun! I do wish that Disney on Ice these days used that guideline for the shows as opposed to the retelling of the movies. Olympic skaters also were a highlight to see. Check out this old commercial I found on YouTube for this show. Linda Fratianne exclaims, “It’s just like a dream come true!”

Did you see this show? I do hope to eventually find some photos to share.
