Afternoon Photos in Harambe Marketplace at Disney’s Animal Kingdom

Since going to Walt Disney World and Disneyland at a young age, Chris has always enjoyed Disney music, TV shows, movies, and trips to Walt Disney World. But his appreciation of the overall Disney experience has greatly increased over the last few years. While waiting for the next chance to work on his Disney photography skills, Chris passes the time listening to Park/Resort audio, WDW podcasts, and checking out the work of other Disney photographers. To Chris, there are no bad Disney trip photographs or photographers.

Non-Disney pursuits include spending time with his wife and children, watching and listening to baseball broadcasts, and cheering for the Chicago Cubs and LSU. Chris is a third generation professional engineer in Louisiana, working mainly on asbestos, lead, mold and demolition projects. During our last trip I got to check out the additions to the Harambe Marketplace at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. I’d like to have tried the food and drinks, but I wanted to make the most of my time and try for some good photographs, especially in the new areas.

If you’ve been to Harambe, you probably get the sense that you’ve stepped into another land, exactly as the Imagineers intended. And for good reason. The pre-expansion details are amazing, and as deeply layered as you might expect from any park or resort area.

The Harambe Marketplace expansion doesn’t disappoint. I tried to capture photos that show the obvious and subtle, all the while enjoying the impression that I’d traveled far from home to a town that would serve as a jumping off point on a new adventure.

I can’t wait to get back and have a chance to shoot this area, and the whole park really, later in the day and at night. There are many great Disney photographers out there, and they’ve posted spectacular shots from Animal Kingdom and Harambe.
