POP VOCALIST SKYLAR STECKER NAMED RADIO DISNEY’S ‘NBT’ (NEXT BIG THING)
Fifteen-year-old pop recording artist Skylar Stecker (Cherrytree Records) has been named Radio Disney’s “NBT” (Next Big Thing), the popular multiplatform spotlight program that champions young recording artists and showcases their journey as they pursue their musical dreams. The announcement follows Stecker’s appearance at the 2017 Radio Disney Music Awards (RDMA) and the feat of production and release of the music video for her single “Only Want You” from the RDMA red carpet. The choreographed performance was filmed in one continuous shot by a single camera, showcasing Stecker’s powerful vocals and dynamic performance style. Stecker will take over Radio Disney and the Radio Disney app to play her favorite music and answer fan questions on THURSDAY, MAY 11 (3:00 p.m. PDT/ 6:00 p.m. EDT).
On the RDMA stage, Stecker was joined by “Descendants 2” star China Anne McClain to present the “ARDY” to winner Grace VanderWaal (“America’s Got Talent”). Stecker also sings “Cherry On Top,” the feature song for the RDMA for the past two years.
Stecker has performed the national anthem for several professional sports teams including the Green Bay Packers at the historic Lambeau Field in Wisconsin, her home state. She also performed at the iconic Roxy theater in Los Angeles and at several Radio Disney events including “On The Road to the RDMA” in 2015. Skylar’s music began playing on Radio Disney in 2014 with her single, “Rooftop,” which was featured in the Disney Channel Original Movie “Bad Hair Day.” Her latest single “Only Want You” has spent three weeks on the Radio Disney Top 30.
In a series of videos, Radio Disney’s “NBT” program will follow Stecker on her journey launching her music career. These videos will be presented on Radio Disney, Disney Channel, the Radio Disney app, RadioDisney.com and social media platforms. Stecker joins an impressive roster of “NBT” alumni including Epic Records’ Fifth Harmony, Island Records’ Shawn Mendes, Black River Entertainment’s Kelsea Ballerini, Hollywood Records’ Bea Miller, Jordan Fisher and Sofia Carson, Kemosabe/RCA Records’ Becky G and Buena Vista Records’ Temecula Road.
