Dinosaur

You climb aboard a time rover.  Everything is going smoothly as you are watching dinosaurs graze and stroll the jungle…but this is only for a short time.  There is a meteorite coming your way!  You have to save yourself!

The attraction I am speaking of can be none other than Dinosaur in Disney’s Animal Kingdom in Lake Buena Vista, Florida, which is located in the Dinoland USA portion of the park.  Originally, this was called Countdown to Extinction, which opened the same day that Animal Kingdom itself opened, on April 22, 1998.  However, it was re-named Dinosaur to promote the film, also called Dinosaur, which opened in theatres on May 19, 2000.  There are no obvious mentions about the film in this attraction, although the two main dinosaurs are the iguanadon and carnotaurus, both of which were significant breeds of dinosaurs in the film.

The Great Movie Ride

Ready when you are, CB!

These are the words uttered right before you take off into the glamour of Hollywood.  I am speaking of none other than The Great Movie Ride in Disney’s Hollywood Studios!  There is much debate over whether people love, are simply okay with it, or feel it needs a complete refurbishment.  I am one who absolutely loves this attraction.  I would only make two small adjustments.  I would alter the scene in Alien and possibly not make it as long as it is; with the part they remove from this, they could add a scene from Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl.

Soarin’

If you enjoy hang gliders, oranges, and pine trees, then this is the perfect attraction for you!  I am speaking of none other than Soarin’ which has become quite popular among the Disney community and our everyday vocabulary. Originally a Disneyland debut in 2001, this was based strictly on California’s sights (and smells).  Demand for a location in Florida was urged and before we knew it, Soarin’ made its grand debut in 2005 at the Walt Disney World Resort in Epcot’s Future World.

The queue always fascinates me with its bright, shiny blue pathway (this coming from a person whose favorite color is blue) to the “main gate.”  Patrick Warburton, who voiced Kronk in the underrated 2000 film The Emperor’s New Groove, hosts the pre-show.  He instructs you on boarding your “flight” and basically what to expect.

SPLASH MOUNTAIN

Greetings all!  This is my very first blog post for the Disney Driven Life and I am very excited.  Since I will be the Attractions blogger, I thought my first post should be centered on my favorite attraction in The Walt Disney World Resort: Splash Mountain.

The first time I rode this was in May 2007.  I was with my parents and had no idea what to expect.  The wait was only ten minutes long.  Why not?  As we made our way through the queue, my hands were beginning to tremble.  Whenever I try a new attraction, I am always deeply scared for my life.  All I knew was that the end would bring a watery death but had no clue what the inside of the attraction was like.  Much to my happiness, an enormous dive into the Briar Patch only occurs once.
