Dream #7 – Busy with Disney

With a passion for Disney, what pursuits does Craig Duncan squeeze in between a full time job and family? How about working on ‘They Disney Brit’, the UKs largest and longest running Disney podcast, the ‘Destination Disney’ radio show and the ‘Eye on Orlando’ radio show both of which are aired live on Florida radio shows. Then there is ‘Mousemeets’ which is UKs Disney annual fan convention and ‘Mousemag’ a free bi-monthly magazine all about Disney written by the Disney Community for the Community. “We have also done something different with our associated web sites. We have made DisneyBrit.com one of the best sources for Disney related news anywhere in the world. EyeonOrlando.com is a pure Orlando holiday portal.”

Dream #2 – Disney by the Numbers

If you’re standing in line to board Space Mountain are you watching the passengers boarding ahead of you or are you looking behind the glass booth trying to figure out what those employees are doing? If the latter, you will probably identify with Tony Caselnova, owner of Disney By The Numbers. “I took my first trip to Disney when I was 13 and became completely fascinated with how things operated.” This fascination led to Tony taking a job at Epcot in 1995. By working security, Tony got a close up view of how things worked. Now he’s taking those experiences and bringing Disney to us ‘by the numbers’.

Celebrating Magic Kingdom’s 40th Anniversary at 5am

On October 1, 2011, I was in a line at 5am on the walkway between Magic Kingdom and The Contemporary Resort.  Why was I in a line this early you may ask?  Well to answer your question…for the Magic Kingdom 40th anniversary merchandise of course!!  To be released were pins, Vinylmations, and shirts to mark this special occasion.

At 6am, the line was moved to the far left side of the turnstiles to receive a wristband.  We still had to go through security which means we got pushed back some in the line. Three good friends and I received a black wristband that would allow us to buy the exclusive pins and Vinylmations between 9:30am and 10am. There were a limited number of wristbands given out and I am not sure how many were distributed.  We spent the time thinking about why Starbucks needed to have a delivery service, tweeting, taking pictures, and talking about this adventure.  From what I was told the people who were in the front of the line never left Magic Kingdom after Mickey’s No So Scary Halloween Party. They had been in line since the party ended at midnight.  While we were waiting, the crowd was given a button and special guide map for the day.  I am not sure at what time the park ran out of guide maps.

Passport to a world of flavors and shopping

Copyright: Elantrice H.

The 16th Annual Epcot International Food and Wine Festival started on September 30th and ends November13th.  The theme for this year’s event is “Passport to a World of Flavors.”  The theme is very catchy and fitting.  Three new marketplaces were announced: Caribbean, Craft Beers, and Hawaii.  I’m sad to say, Idid not try any of these. I really did not try much.  It was just so hot!  That is not a reflection on the qualityor presentation of the food. It is just when I get hot, water is what I reach for.

MERCHANDISE IS BLOSSOMING AT THE 18TH ANNUAL EPCOT INTERNATIONAL FLOWER & GARDEN FESTIVAL

Copyright: J. Givens

My sister and I made a quick trip to Walt Disney World to meet up with Disney tweeps and to see the beautiful topiaries at the 18th Annual Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival presented by HGTV.  This year’s festival, which began on March 2nd and ends on May 15th, offers tips on gardening, conservation, and presentations by HGTV’s designers.  I was excited to see several topiaries of characters such as Lotso, Mickey & The Gang, Pooh & Friends, Lightin’ McQueen, and Lady & The Tramp to name a few.  I had the opportunity to walk through Bambi’s Butterfly House.  I saw Water Wise Herbs & Vegetables, presented by Rain Bird Corporation and The Art of Green Living presented by FNGLA.

NEW PIN SETS AT EPCOT AND LOVE IS MAGICAL DUFFY PIN EVENT

With the celebration of the 40th Anniversary of Walt Disney World starting up around the World, two very nice collector pin sets have debuted at Epcot over the last couple of weeks.  The “Epcot Passport Collectors Set” is the newest of the bunch and will set you back $60 dollars.  As I understand it, it is a limited edition of only 500 sets.  Personally, I cannot wait to get my hands on this set and hope to do so very soon. This set features some of the original logos of The Land, Living Seas, World Showcase, Journey into Imagination, and Spaceship Earth.  It really is a must have, not only for the avid pin collector, but for the Epcot geek such as myself.  This set is an Epcot exclusive and can only be purchased at Pin Traders in Future World plaza.
