Our Disney Driven New Years

Photo Credit: Molly B. Mickey and Friends banner supplied by Discount Party Supplies, 2012 Mickey banner hand made and supplied by Kush Event Planning

Besides actually being in Walt Disney World for New Years Eve, I’m not sure if I can think of any better way to ring in the New Year, then to do it Disney Driven Life style, and throw a Mickey Mouse themed party for the little ones, celebrating the birth of 2012! I truly envy those of you who were lucky enough to be within arms reach of my favorite castle on the eve of 2012, but I guarantee you that our little soiree was just a tad less crowded. Probably just as noisy though!

“Re-doing” Old Scrapbook Layouts

I was recently asked by a fellow scrapbooking friend if she should go back and “fix“ or “re-do“ some of her original scrapbooking layouts? I told her that was a decision only she could make, but that I believed that my earlier attempts at scrapbooking were part of my own creative journey and that the changes I have made to my style on paper showed as much where I am from as the photos on the page.

“Re-Doing” Your Disney Scrapbook Pages

I was recently asked by a fellow scrap booking friend if she should go back and “fix“ or “re-do“ some of her original scrap booking layouts? I told her that was a decision only she could make, but that I believed that my earlier attempts at scrap booking were part of my own creative journey and that the changes I have made to my style on paper showed as much where I am from as the photos on the page.

When I first began putting my memories to paper, my DH and I had just celebrated our 2nd Wedding Anniversary. As a surprise, I booked us at the same hotel in Kissimmee that we stayed at for our honeymoon and even spoke to his boss about having the 5 days off for our trip. Our son was staying with his grandparents while we were away, so this was our chance for a 2nd honeymoon.

PACKING DISNEY STYLE

This Neurotic Disney Family is currently 10 days away from their much awaited vacation to Walt Disney World. The kids and I are completely brimming with excitement and yesterday the husband even quipped, “We’re 11 days away. I’m actually pretty excited.” Swoon! What music to a Neurotic Disney Mom’s ears! I have reached the end of my months of planning the annual journey to my homeland, and I am currently in the final stage. Packing. This is the 4th time I as an adult have packed for a weeklong vacation to Walt Disney World. The first time it was just me and my husband on our honeymoon. The last two times it was for my family of 4. The new addition of our little princess came in January so this is the first time I will be packing for a family of five, including three children under the age of 5, two of whom are still in diapers, and one on a baby food diet. This can be quite an overwhelming task unless you attack it with complete organization and the realization that you might not sleep much the night before you leave. This doesn’t bother me much as I know I can catch a nap while sitting in The Hall of Presidents. So here are a couple tricks of the trade I have picked up over the years that help packing go a bit smoother!

Favorite Photo Spots

As I take my photos I seem to plan out my layout in my head at that time. My kids are getting used to hearing “stand over there, this will make a GREAT scrap booking page. I have my paper and embellishments already planned as I pose them in their places. I also have my favorite photo places; both at home and in Walt Disney World.

My kids know that on the first day of school I always take their photo at the top of our staircase and outside under our big maple tree. In the same manner, I seem to always take photos of my kids in the same places at Walt Disney World. Yes, I need to get the (almost) mandatory photos from in front of Cinderella’s Castle, and with the Partner’s Statue, but my family has our own photo op places that are not necessarily marked with a “Kodak Photo Spot” sign.

DISNEY DRIVEN PARTIES

I don’t know about you, but throwing parties for my children plays a big part in my Disney Driven Life. During the planning processes of these parties, my Neurotic Disney Mom tendencies come out big time. “What’s that you say? You don’t want a Disney related party theme this year. DS2? How dare you?!” I won’t get into the substance of the story of when my sweet little middle guy wanted a party with a character from the channel we do not name…

ANTIQUE DISNEY TOYS THAT ALWAYS MAKE ME SMILE

I want to feature three of the antique Disney toys in my home that never fail to give me a big smile every time I look at them. These toys may be a bit worn and not in mint condition, but in my mind I can hear the children’s laughter echoing from all the fun that they had playing with them when they owned them in years past.

My sister, Melissa at Christmas 2010, gave the first two Mickey Mouse toys to me because she knows how much that I love Mickey Mouse, so right off the bat they are extra special to me.  The Mickey Mouse Push–Up Puppet (the toy on the right) was manufactured in 1977 by Gabriel Industries Inc. in Hong Kong, and it is quite fun to move Mickey around by pushing the bottom of the figurine in various places.  The wind up Mickey Mouse (the toy on the left) was made by TOMY in 1977 in Taiwan and it actually still winds up and walks.  It is definitely a little wobbly when it walks, but it is still loads of fun!

GLUING DOWN YOUR MEMORIES

You can add memories in all shapes and sizes to your layout with the proper adhesive.

At a recent crop at my local scrap booking store I began to notice all of the different types of adhesives available. I was working on pages for my last WDW trip album, and was busy trying to affix my keycards, receipts, and napkins to my pages and realized “there must me a better way to do this.” I went on a search around the store and was thrilled to see all of the choices available to me.

YIKES! THERE’S A MONORAIL IN MY HOUSE

Please stand clear of the doors…….Por favor mantengase alejado de las puertas!

This famous line floods my mind with memories of Walt Disney World.  The Monorail is second only to Cinderella Castle at epitomizing what Walt Disney World means to me!  Just like Disney, there is a story line behind everything and I have a story behind my love of the Walt Disney World Monorails.  One of my first Disney memories as a kid was riding the Monorail in complete awe at this marvelous form of transportation and when it actually drove right through a hotel (the Contemporary Resort) I was literally breathless!  To this day this is still a vivid memory for me.
