INNER MOUSE 24 – CONVERTING TO THE MOUSE

The Disney Driven Life brings you another episode of inner mouse. In this week’s show, Mark and Marilyn guest host with Scott, John, and JL.  The topic is converting loved ones to a Disney lifestyle. What is a Disney convert? Where do you find them? How are they converted? And why is this important? Listen for the answers to these questions and more on the latest episode of inner mouse.

NEUROTIC DISNEY PERSON OF THE MONTH

“All your dreams can come true if you have the courage to pursue them.”–Walt Disney

This was an idealistic notion that Walter Elias Disney championed throughout his life.  Many are inspired by these lofty words.  Countless admire their optimism.  Far fewer actually trust in them enough to put them to the test, but our NDP of the Month is one of the few.  Meet Brenda V. (NDI #24).

NDP COMMUNITY REPORT

The Disney Driven Life started out about 2 years ago with a trip report on a popular Disney forum.  Soon, people started wanting to Be Counted and take their place on the Roster.  Today, our little community has grown to 1,049 Neurotic Disney People and 12 Neurotic Disney Critters!

We’re so glad that we now have a place where Disney fans can come together and ‘hang out’.   This year, we thought it would be fun to share important events / milestones that are going on in each other’s lives once a month.  Here are some of the great things that happened in our NDP Community during December and January:

SO LONG FOR NOW, BUT NOT GOODBYE

It was at Yankee Stadium on July 4, 1939 when Yankee great and legend Lou Gehrig made his famous speech uttering the words “Today, I consider myself, the luckiest man on the face of the earth.” Since being invited by Traci to contribute articles to the Disney Driven Life in January of 2010, I too have considered myself “the luckiest man on the face of the earth” and being voted winner of the Disney Driven Life Academy Award Blogger of the Year for 2010 is an honor I will forever cherish. So it is with a heavy heart that I inform each of you that for now this will be my final contribution to the Disney Driven Life.

NEUROTIC DISNEY PERSON OF THE MONTH

Marking our territory in a Disney-esque way is instinctive for NDPs.  This is why our iPods play Disney soundtracks.  It’s why our cell phone screens are pictures of castles.  It’s the purpose of our character-clad wardrobes, and it’s the reason our daughters are named Ariel, Jasmine, and Belle.  The Neurotic Disney People chosen for this month have made their mark a mobile one, and they have given The Disney “Driven” Life a whole new meaning.  Meet Mark and Marilyn L. (NDH#43 and NDW#65).

MOST LIKELY TO BE A VILLAIN: Matt T.-NDD#92

There is something that has been bothering me for ages now.  Frankly, its the way you people have misjudged a certain character–the villain. Shocked? Don’t be. He’s the fellow who does his best to give you his worst . . . the chap who gives the hero a chance to be brave. Now where would David be without Goliath or Jonah without the whale? How interesting do you think Samson would be without Delilah? Getting the point? ABOUT TIME!

NEUROTIC DISNEY PERSON OF THE MONTH

Marvin Gaye once sang, “Ain’t no mountain high enough. Ain’t no valley low enough. Ain’t no river wide enough to keep me from gettin’ to you . . . .”  As devoted Disney fans, these lyrics perfectly express the mania most of us feel when we have been separated from the “motherland” for any significant period of time.  This month’s Neurotic Disney Person of the Month doesn’t have to just overcome a river though.  She has to overcome an entire ocean every time she needs to touch home base.  Meet Janine P., Neurotic Disney Mom #275.

THE DISNEY DRIVEN LIFE ACADEMY AWARDS

The Disney Driven Life has always tried to provide a window into the lifestyle of Disney fanatics.  A primary element of this lifestyle is finding ways to connect with the Disney brand on a day-to-day basis.  The Disney Driven Life Academy Awards is our attempt to acknowledge and express gratitude to those within the Neurotic Disney Community as well as the Disney community at large who work tirelessly to bring a little Disney to our door and enable our obsession to flourish, carrying us between our Disney trips and providing high points when we are on them.

NEUROTIC DISNEY PERSON OF THE MONTH

Little more than a decade ago, a newborn baby laughed for the first time. As is common with newborn laughs, a pixie was born.  This particular pixie, however, sprouted a curious pair of black mouse ears on its head . . . or at least this is what I imagine happened when I visualize the impression this month’s Neurotic Disney Person made when she entered the world.  Meet Katie V., Neurotic Disney Kid #49.

Katie’s fascination with Disney began at an age that few can boast.  She was all of two years old when she became addicted to Bear in the Big Blue House, a popular preschooler show on the Disney Channel.  Her obsession with the big, furry grizzly and other familiar Playhouse Disney superstars were Katie’s first connection (and, consequently, her springboard) into a Disney-esque childhood.

NEUROTIC DISNEY PERSON OF THE MONTH

A Neurotic Disney Mom’s mission in life is to indoctrinate her family into Disney culture and nurture a compulsive fascination towards the Disney brand.  She lives to see her children develop a love for Mickey that is independent of her.  She breathes to witness her partner light up at the mention of a Disney vacation.  She exists to fill her home with pixie dust.  This month’s Neurotic Disney Person of the Month not only does these things but takes this mission to a level of which even the fiercest NDM must stand in awe.  Meet Scarlett L., Neurotic Disney Mom #259.

PIN TRADING – A DISNEY ‘MUST SEE’

Hi and Welcome back to the Walt Disney World Top Must Dos, the Disney Driven Life blog that focuses on the top 30 things that my wife, Sarah, and I enjoy doing at Walt Disney World.  These posts will be written in the spirit of the great “Top 7 Must Sees,” which means that they will be filled with excitement, and quite possibly, corny catch-phrases.

In sharing my Must Sees, I will present an image each week illustrative of the theme.  As a Neurotic Disney Person who spends a great deal of time photographing Walt Disney World, I think I have a unique perspective on the parks that others may miss (and I don’t mean because I only see the parks through a viewfinder!).

NEUROTIC DISNEY PERSON OF THE MONTH

There are many paths that lead to a Disney Driven Lifestyle. Some get there by way of family memories. Some get there by way of ideology. Many get there by way of a kick-butt vacation. But our Neurotic Disney Person of the Month got there by way of . . . homework. Meet Kristen H., Neurotic Disney Auntie #12.

Kristen was exposed to Disney Parks as a wee little mouseketeer, but her Disney upbringing was cut short at the young age of four years old when her parents declared that they would not return. Many years later as a young adult, a friend suggested that Kristen and she make a trip to the World together. The trip planning began, and Kristen was captured by the dream of her future destination.

THE COMMUNITY REPORT: NDP OF THE MONTH

There is a monthly feature on the Disney Driven Life that you have most likely seen: The Neurotic Disney Person of the Month. Once each month, an NDP is selected for one of many reasons. Perhaps they have done something to advance the Disney Driven Life community, or they show good-will towards others in a manner related to Disney. Perhaps they have a cool site or product, or they’ve done something interesting that makes them stand out as a member of the Disney Driven Life community. Essentially, if they have done something unique, they are a candidate for this honor.
