HAVING THE “FORCE” ON STAR WARS WEEKEND

We are a Star Wars family, as well as a Disney Family.  In fact I am more of a Star Wars fan than a Disney fan.  We have all the movies and more.  So Star Wars Weekend is a combination of two of my favorite things.  I love going to Star Wars Weekend as there is so much excitement for a Star Wars Fan.  However, if you have a special needs member in the group there are three big problems; crowds, lines, and hot weather (there’s not much to do about that but stay hydrated).  With a little planning you can do it, and here are some tips we learned on our last trip to Star Wars Weekend.

PEANUT BUTTER & JELLY MILKSHAKE 50’s PRIME TIME CAFE

At 50’s Prime Time Café inside Disney’s Hollywood Studios there is an awesome dessert called the Peanut Butter and Jelly Milkshake. Either most of you just went yum or gross! This cold concoction is so refreshing on hot day and filling as well. I usually go there just for this shake. When I am missing the Studio’s I put together this easy recipe to make these shakes at home. It’s a great one to get the kids involved too. Enjoy!

TESTING YOUR METTLE

Previously I have written about my first race experiences here.  Since then, I have gotten another three Disney 5Ks under my belt.  I would like to talk about the most recent of these experiences, the Champion® 5K at Dick’s Sporting Goods Presents ESPN The Weekend (ESPN 5K for short).  The race was held the first Saturday in March, only a week after my previous race, during the Princess Half Marathon Weekend.  Read about our own NDH #19 Todd Perlmutter’s recap of that race on the Touring Plans blog here.

CARROT CAKE COOKIE FROM THE WRITER’S STOP

In Disney’s Hollywood Studios is a little place called the Writer’s Stop. Most people have never heard of this quaint little spot located in the Street of America section of the park. It is a combination of an eatery, store for books and souvenirs and a comfortable place to take in the ac. It has that coffee shop feel that you can just have a refreshing beverage and relax with a great book. My favorite part of the Writer’s Stop is the Carrot Cake Cookie. It goes for $2.95 plus you could use one for your snack credits if you are on the dining plan. There are dozens of other baked goods to choose from but this one takes the cake for me. Here is a simple recipe to help get a sweet Disney fix until your next vacation…

BUTTERFINGER CUPCAKES ALA STARRING ROLLS CAFE

Inside Disney’s Hollywood Studios is a little counter service spot called Starring Rolls Cafe.  They have a variety of sandwiches, beverages and of course desserts! One of my favorite treats is the enormous Butterfinger Cupcake.  The recipe can be found online, but not too many people have dared to attempt the feat. It is actually quite a busy process from the batter, to frosting, to the chocolate inside and then topping with freshly crushed Butterfinger! You honestly cannot go wrong with this dessert, even if you mess the recipe up, the ingredients alone will save the cake.

WHO DID YOU MEET TODAY?

Who did you meet today? I met a guy picking up trash.

I recently attended some training with the Disney Institute. I was part of their Quality Service program at the Walt Disney World Resort. One of our field experiences included a trip to Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

After completing our assignment, (yes it wasn’t all fun and rides) we were making our way back to our rendezvous point when we observed a few in our group along with one of our facilitators talking with a cast member. I recognized him as a cast member because he had one of those trash grabbers in his hand and he was dressed business casual. When we got to the group I overheard this cast member talking and I recognized his voice. Tom, our facilitator, introduced us. As it turns out, he was from a small town in west Alabama. When I mentioned I was from Alabama he gave me a big “Roll Tide” and a huge smile while shaking my hand. Immediate connection. . .

RUMORS OF THE WEEK

1066564_gossip_girls_1

There have been several little rumors that have popped up this week, so instead of just covering one of them, I thought I would write about a few of them, just to help keep you great readers informed!

Bye-bye Jojo:  It has been said that soon, Jojo and Goliath of Playhouse Disney fame will not be seen in Hollywood Studios as a meet and greet or as a character for the Playhouse Disney character meal at Hollywood and Vine. The rumored replacement: Handy Manny.
