DISNEY’S SPIRIT OF ALOHA DINNER SHOW

photo Dennis Brown all rights reserved

Disney offers an array of beautiful resorts.  One of my very favorite resorts is Disney’s Polynesian Resort.  This resort is located on the monorail loop and opened their doors on October 1, 1971 as one of the two original resorts on the Walt Disney World property.  The Polynesian’s South Seas theme is inviting and soothing and immediately envelopes guests as they walk in the door and are offered a lei.  In addition to the new jewelry, guests hear the sounds of the rushing waters and see the lush vegetation offered by the center piece of the Great Ceremonial House’s atrium.

NEUROTICALLY WAITING FOR NEXT DVC

My obsession lately has been what’s next at Disney World– will we see more attractions announced at D23? What will Art of Animation look like when done? When can I eat at Gaston’s in the new Fantasy Land?

MICKEY’S BACKYARD BARBEQUE DINNER SHOW

This week, I finish out our discussions of the Dinner Shows.  As you may recall, in the previous weeks, I have discussed the Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue Dinner Show and the Spirit of Aloha Luau Dinner Show.  These shows are located at Fort Wilderness and the Polynesian Resort, respectively.

DON’T BE AFRAID TO ASK

Upon returning to Walt Disney World, just about everyone has their own favorite “moment” when the feeling of “being there” hits them.  For some, it’s when they first cross over that magical threshold from the real world onto Disney property.  For others, it’s walking on to Main Street, USA.  For me, it is the moment when I check in and receive my Key to the World card, so checking in to my hotel is always a magical moment. With over 30 trips to Disney World under my belt I’ve come up with quite a few tips and tricks when it comes to checking in.  Here’s one of my favorites:

Ask for the things you want.

You would think more people would do this, but they don’t.  Want a room on the third floor?  Ask!  Hoping for a room overlooking the water?  Ask!  Chances are that the Cast Member will try to find a way to make it happen for you. I will point out that there are a few factors that will play into whether or not you are granted your request.  You’re more likely to get what you want during slower times of the year, and the way you ask can play a role in the response you receive.  Sometimes, it just isn’t possible to get what you want.  However, there are always ways to stack the deck in your favor.

BRINGING ‘OHANA HOME

The weather has been really cold and unbearable this lovely winter season. I have had the Polynesian Resort on my mind lately, and I was thinking of ways to bring it to my home. So, over the weekend, I ventured out to my local party store and picked up some luau supplies. I already had the leis from our last vacation to the Poly. We decorated our dining room and I served up some of my favorite dishes and drinks from ‘Ohana. I made the stir-fry noodles, Lapu Lapu’s, and some other treats that I put my own culinary twist on. We had Hawaiian loop music playing and it was great! We had so much fun enjoying a tropical Disney feast with the outside temperature being a mere 10 degrees. It was really easy to pull off and helped my family get a little Disney warmth into our New England home. You can chose from any of the dishes you like for your own luau. Here are two of the recipes we enjoyed.

PUT ON YOUR GRASS SKIRT!

As you may recall, I challenged you two weeks ago to guess my favorite “thing” to do at Walt Disney World.  The “thing” was at a resort and had nothing to do with the traditional resort fun:  the Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Review Dinner Show!  Going along with this same theme, I would like to discuss with you today the Polynesian Resort’s Spirit of Aloha Dinner Show.

The Basics:  The show is located in Luau Cove at the Polynesian Resort.  As you may know, the Polynesian Resort is a monorail loop resort, thus making getting to the show much easier than getting to the Hoop-Dee-Doo!  While most do take the monorail to get to the resort, additional transportation may be found by way of Disney bus. The dinner show appetizers include Pineapple-Coconut Bread, Mixed Greens with Mango Poppy Seed Dressing, and Sweet Golden Pineapple.  The main course includes BBQ Pork Ribs, Roasted Chicken, Rice and Seasoned Vegetables.  But be sure to save room for the Kilauea Volcano Delight.  (Since I don’t even remember the dessert, I must not have saved room.) Many of the drinks are included such as certain beers, wines, and sodas.  However, a full bar is also available.

MAKE A WISH AND CHOOSE YOUR STYLE

After the excitement of the proposal winds down and the celebratory confetti has settled, you and your bride or husband-to-be may be at the point where you’re ready to decide on the best place for your wedding.

You’re a huge WDW fan, and you know you want to memorialize your day with a Disney wedding; however, you just don’t know if you can afford it. Or perhaps finances are not an issue, but you want to have a small and intimate affair. Or maybe you can’t even consider a diminutive event, so you are ready to go all out and get married with a grand boom! No matter the way, WDW has three different wedding packages for you to choose from. They are  perfect for all budgets and styles. From an intimate gathering to a gala event, it’s up to you to decide.

CALLING CARDLESS

Pulling up to the guardhouse at Disney’s Polynesian Resort, I feel the hair on my arms stand-up as goosebumps break out like a bad rash.  I can hardly believe what I am about to say when the words form in my mouth. “Hi!” I greet the guard with a wide grin.  “I have a reservation at the Polynesian for the Social Media Moms Celebration.”  I have a reservation at the Polynesian . . . sweeter words were never spoken.
