This year’s D23 Expo came to a close Sunday night rather quietly, much like the entire, relatively uneventful weekend.
Friday opened with the Disney Legends Ceremony and big cheers from the Disney fans. A big highlight was the voice of the princesses singing songs from their movies.
Friday afternoon was much less well received as there was no large announcements at the Parks and Resorts presentation as many expected. Among the discussed topics were the Fantasyland Expansion, Aulani, Carsland, Tangled coming to Disneyland’s Fantasyland and the Snow White Mine Train coaster being built in Fantasyland. Fans were furious because they expected big news just as was announced two years ago, but due to the economy and number of projects Disney already has under way, this lack of announcements comes as no surprise for some.
We all have busy lives. There’s always something going on and we constantly have to adjust ourselves to the speed of life. Teens in particular are always occupied. There’s high school, extracurricular activities, friends, family, chores, and maybe a part-time job or two. With all this moving, we’re bound to get sick, emotionally or physically. We may have caught the flu, or we may be close to a nervous breakdown. Either way we’ve got two options: try to keep going and end up hurting others, and ourselves, or we can stop and take the break we need. Often we just can’t wait to be king so we set high standards for ourselves. Sometimes if we take a break we might call this failure. It’s not failure; this brief break is setting us up for success. It’s allowing us to go the distance. Disney is one of the best medicines. It helps me take my mind off of whatever ails me. Here are some things you should try on your next sick or mental health day to bring you some magic.
Kids all around the country are already on summer break right now. My son will be finishing up second grade this week. Summer time is not only filled with fun in the sun, but lots of hidden learning in our house. As a certified reading teacher, I make sure that we get in some reading with the boys each and every day when we are home. We have a lot of books and go to the library often (hello, air conditioned location). In many of our local libraries, they have summer reading programs.
