Which Way To Wonderland?

I stare out the window of the minivan and watch as the I-4 signs indicate we are getting closer to Walt Disney World.  Normally, this is a trek that makes me really happy, but tonight it is quite the opposite.  “I’m a little bit nervous, and I sort of don’t want to go,” I confess to Jackie, my fellow NDM and escort for the evening.  “Why?  We are going to have so much fun,” Jackie assures me, “It’s a social media event.  That is what you are all about. There is no way that we aren’t going to have the best time ever!”  “It’s been so long, Jackie,” I lament. “I am really out of the loop since inner mouse went on hiatus and I started working.  Maybe I’m a ‘has been’ at this point.  I don’t even really know how I should handle myself at this thing.  I just feel incredibly awkward.”

D23 Expo Overview

This year’s D23 Expo came to a close Sunday night rather quietly, much like the entire, relatively uneventful weekend.

Friday opened with the Disney Legends Ceremony and big cheers from the Disney fans.  A big highlight was the voice of the princesses singing songs from their movies.

Friday afternoon was much less well received as there was no large announcements at the Parks and Resorts presentation as many expected.  Among the discussed topics were the Fantasyland Expansion, Aulani, Carsland, Tangled coming to Disneyland’s Fantasyland and the Snow White Mine Train coaster being built in Fantasyland. Fans were furious because they expected big news just as was announced two years ago, but due to the economy and number of projects Disney already has under way, this lack of announcements comes as no surprise for some.

MOTIVATION TO MOVE

Have you ever thought about running a Disney race? Marathon, half marathon, whatever… If you are like me, your main problem is motivation. Running a marathon sounds all fine and dandy, but you actually have to get up and DO something. Therein lies the problem. I will write the training schedule on my calendar, so I make sure I know what the training plan is everyday. I start laying my clothes out in the evening, making sure they are ready in the morning for the 6 am start time. Then morning comes.

A MEET OF THE MINDS

There was a meet of the minds held in Ormond Beach, Florida on March 13. These minds were no ordinary minds though; these were the minds of people many of us know, love, and aspire to be like!  These minds included Charlie Ridgway, Kelly Monaghan, Seth Kubersky, Steve Barrett, and Lou Mongello!  These five renowned authors were seen around the Ormond Beach Library this past Sunday as a part of the “Meet The Authors Bookfair and Festival” held by the Friends of the Orlando Beach Library. They were among more than 50 other authors based in Central Florida at this event. These authors greeted fans, talked about their books and about the parks they write about and love.  They even took part in a panel discussion where they discussed their books and how they came to be.

LOU MONGELLO’S AUDIO GUIDES – THE NEXT BEST THING TO BEING THERE

Whenever Lou Mongello, host of the WDW Radio Show, offers a new product for sale, you know its top quality at a great price. So, I can’t tell you how excited I was to download and start listening to Lou Mongello’s Audio Guides To Walt Disney World Volumes 4 and 5 for Liberty Square and Mickey’s Toontown Fair.

Rather than stay on my computer or watch TV, I decided to lay down in bed just so I could give the audio guides my undivided attention. I clung to each and every word spoken by Lou Mongello when all of a sudden I realized I would have to get up for work in a few short hours. I tried and tried to put my iPod down but I couldn’t stop listening to the majestic and ever so detailed narration. For over an hour I kept saying to myself, five more minutes. Finally, the rational or irrational side of my brain, depending on how you want to look at it, won out and I turned my iPod off!

BELIEVE IN THE MAGICAL KINGDOM

Once upon a time in a far, far, far away land there lived a family of believers in a town of disbelievers. The family was persecuted, ridiculed, and tormented for having the audacity of keeping the faith in the almighty Mouse! They lived in a land where the only thing that mattered was one’s personal prosperity. It was a land where the people prayed to the Universal gods.

This proud father and husband was not going to let his family fall victim of the masses. The father taught his children to be righteous, to walk proud, and keep their chin up for the others know not what they do. He told his children to always carry the good book and if there ever comes a time when they need to search for answers they will find it within. Of course I speak about the holy bible, ‘The Unofficial Guide To Walt Disney World’ co-authored by the master statistician Len Testa.
