MY DISNEY HOME OFFICE

People that know me know I have shopped for Disney items to place in my home.  Of course I am a big Disney fan, but my love for Mickey Mouse is even bigger.  I wanted to take the time to show how I’ve decorated my home office to reflect my love for “The Mouse.”  I spend a great deal of time at my desk typing notes, making phone calls, or just getting ready for the next work day.  I love the fact I can just look around and see my “collections” that remind me of Mickey Mouse and Walt Disney World.

I enjoy Disney shopping for things I can specially use in my home office as well as work.  I have several Disney sticky pads, notebooks, and Kooky pens.

PACKING TINKERBELL

I leave for Walt Disney World tomorrow morning. I am excited but always have those last minute, “Did I pack everything?” concerns. My biggest worry is flying alone with my 18 month old, but that’s another story. It’s not too hard to pack for myself, but I rely on my spreadsheets to pack for “Tink.”

I started my packing spreadsheets when she was very small. None of our family lives nearby, so even a visit to Grandma’s house is a big packing ordeal. It was really helpful to have a list of what I needed, broken down by categories. I could check off items as I set them aside. This helped me to pack a little at a time and know exactly what was still needed at the last minute. Granted, I still over-packed. Each time I use the spreadsheet at a new age, I try to revise it and save a new copy. For future kids, I’ll just be able to print off a list and get ready to go.

NEUROTIC DISNEY PERSON OF THE MONTH

A Neurotic Disney Mom’s mission in life is to indoctrinate her family into Disney culture and nurture a compulsive fascination towards the Disney brand.  She lives to see her children develop a love for Mickey that is independent of her.  She breathes to witness her partner light up at the mention of a Disney vacation.  She exists to fill her home with pixie dust.  This month’s Neurotic Disney Person of the Month not only does these things but takes this mission to a level of which even the fiercest NDM must stand in awe.  Meet Scarlett L., Neurotic Disney Mom #259.

FIRST HAIRCUTS

I really wanted to be able to share with you a touching story of my little girl’s very first haircut at Harmony Barber Shop at Magic Kingdom park after this fall’s visit. Alas, she’s still rocking the natural pixie cut. Appropriate for a little girl who’s nickname is Tink, but sad for an overly sentimental and neurotic Disney mama. So that those of you who are less follicularly challenged may partake of this very special service, I’ll provide some information now. Maybe I can update this post in a couple of years with my own photos and story.

DISNEY’S CARIBBEAN BEACH: PART 3 OF 3

You will recall in Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort: Review Part 1 and 2 that my family decided to stay at this resort for our third time.  We had checked in at the resort and were staying in the “Nemo” themed room in the Barbados section.  We had noticed that the room had some condensation issues, but were more worried about our son who had become quite ill during our visit.  We had carefully watched him for 2 days in the hotel room with him only getting more sick.  In the end, we had called 911 to assist.  Now, off to the ER…

DISNEY’S CARIBBEAN BEACH: PART 1 OF 3

The Caribbean Beach Resort is a beautiful resort, with lush vegetation, bright buildings and sandy beaches that surround the Barefoot Lake.  This hotel is located in the EPCOT area and is also located close to the beautifully themed Typhoon Lagoon.  Family’s find that this Resort is often their favorite due to the themes and moderate pricing.  The resort has good room sizes and makes kids all over scream, “I want to stay in the Nemo Room!”  In addition to the great room themes, the Resort offers an island feel that takes you to that tropical hideaway, right at Disney World parks’ doorstep!

DISNEY’S POP CENTURY: A HIDDEN EXTRA!

I am sure that many of you have stayed at Disney’s Pop Century Resort in the past.  However, upon my recent stay, I made the decision that since it was July, I would commit to coming back to the room for a rest during the day to avoid a complete meltdown by 4 p.m. (I say meltdown because it was in the mid-90s during this stay, but felt more like the mid-100s!).  So on the first day when I returned to the resort for my rest at about 2 p.m., I did as I usually do when returning to the resort at the end of the night and went to make a bee-line to my nice, clean air conditioned room (I knew they were air conditioned because of the retro sign as driving into the resort that announces, “Air Conditioning”!) when my son spotted the playground located outside of the Classic Hall and close to the 90’s parking lot.

TWEETING TO A WHOLE NEW WORLD

It was the beginning of August in the summer of 2008. I was sitting up in bed on a dreary dark cloudy day just a little over a week before my next visit to Disney. I wanted to be there in the worst way so much so I became demoralized, depressed, and discombobulated. I was falling into the depths of despair! Worse yet it was Monday morning and I had to go to work. Oh no! What was I going to do? If I couldn’t be at Disney right then and there I would need something to lift my spirits, something to cling to until the Magical Express bus would drive me through the gates of Heaven, Walt Disney World.

GETTING THERE CAN BE LESS THAN HALF THE FUN

My husband has been asking me to write about what happens when things go wrong on a trip to Disney. Just as I like to cover my head with a blanket if I am forced to go off-property during a vacation, I generally choose to discuss more pleasant things than little speed bumps along International Drive.

REAL, LIVE NEUROTIC DISNEY MOMS

The mention of my name and tap from behind startles me a little bit.  Mychicagomommy and MomRN are still chatting next to me, and I hadn’t realized anyone else was standing behind me.  Shocked, I slowly turn to face the one that uttered my name.
