Blogger Beware!

In November of last year, I was in the final stages of launching my blog when a friend of mine (a lawyer) got wind of the project.  She was fully supportive, but she had a minor concern because I was using trademarked property (i.e. the Disney name) throughout the blog.  This got me scratching my bald head.

After a few seconds of panicking, I remembered that there are thousands of Disney-related blogs, websites, podcasts, YouTube channels and other social media endeavors that were created by average Joe’s like you and me.  No sweat!

A DISNEY DRIVEN TECH LIFE: DISNEY ON THE GO

As I began writing this article on the road I thought, “What better topic for today than keeping the Disney brand front and center with mobile technology?”  Having decided, then, let’s talk about a few tips and tricks for how to do just that.  Some of these may be painfully obvious, but I hope I can help at least one or two of you fine neurotic Disney folk find a little extra magic between trips to the property.

As anyone with a “smart phone” can tell you, these things might as well be called computers-that-call-people.  What this means is that we have access to a world of mobile Pixie Dust options on a range of phone models, from basic to NASA-certified.

LIFE CHANGING

At the age of  27 I was a stay at home mom with 3 beautiful girls and one on the way.  The last few months of my pregnancy were challenging and I was put on strict bedrest and then had a two week hospital stay before my daughter was born. I was assured that after giving birth the difficulties I was having would go away. Oh how I wish that were true. I gave birth to my daughter in October, and by the following January I was completely bedridden.  My husband had to work from home to care for my girls and me. Life as I knew it had changed, and I didn’t like it.

HOW DISNEY CHANGED THE ATHLETE IN ME

I was not born a runner. An athlete, yes. A runner, no! I was a college volleyball player and a 3 sport athlete in high school. I spent countless hours training, going to camps, working on my skills. The culmination was a wonderful college volleyball career, and, oddly enough, a career coaching college volleyball. I spent years working to become the best I could be, and it helped me accomplish great things.

December 28, 2008 was a day that changed my life. Every December I sit down to write what I call my challenges for the next year. I don’t like resolutions, but I find it hard to pass up a challenge. I had always been a Disney fan, but I felt like I had to hide it. I had talked to my boyfriend, Chas, about planning a trip for the summer of 2009 to Walt Disney World. He had never been there, and after a two year absence, I was desperately missing home. I started searching for information to plan our vacation, and, to my surprise, I found a ton of it. Best of all, I found something called podcasts!

WHAT WOULD LEN PACK?

Last week, I was listening to JL Knopp, the Disney Driven Life’s creator of all things neurotic on the WDW Today Podcast with Len Testa of TouringPlans.com and Matt Hochberg of StudioCentral.com. If you somehow managed to miss the show, it is episode number 714 here.

While listening to the show a light bulb went off with an idea for a blog article. As many of you know Len Testa is the co-author of The Unofficial Guide To Walt Disney World. It got me thinking, Len probably knows his way around Disney World as well as anyone. If there’s anybody who would know how and what to pack for a Walt Disney World vacation it would be Len Testa, right?

MEETING THE MONGELLOS

It is something I’ll never forget. It was the middle of August 2008 and I was with my family on vacation at Walt Disney World. We picked this time of year to go in order to take advantage of Disney’s free dining offer which I heard so much about on a couple of podcasts that I listen to.

A PODCAST’S UNSUNG HERO

The WDW Today Podcast is comprised of four guys and one gal who together make up an unbelievably talented cast of characters. The show is incredibly hilarious and always very informative. The funny man of the crew and a mathematical genius is Len Testa of touringplans.com and co-author of The Unofficial Guide To Walt Disney World.
