Even though the news of Disney’s acquisition of Lucasfilm is a few weeks old, it seems like there’s still a lot of buzz about this deal. As expected, you can find people who are thrilled about this partnership, while others remain skeptical.
What do I think?
From a business perspective, I have to tip my hat to Bob Iger. I think this was a very smart move on his part and it shows that he is constantly on the lookout for other like-minded individuals that can help the Disney brand grow stronger. (Remember, he was responsible for the recent acquisition of Marvel Entertainment as well as another tiny company by the name of Pixar.)
I am a member of the Star Wars generation: saw the original movie at age 5 at the drive-in, collected the toys, played as Luke on the playground, doubted Vader was Luke’s father, and passed on my appreciation to my little brother. The summer before my senior year of high school my brother and I watched the original trilogy once a week. By the end of the summer we were saying the lines before the characters, and turning our bunk beds into X-wing fighters (If I were feeling nice I let him play Wedge and I took Luke). Now, my son has his own set of the movies, has dressed as a Star Wars character for Halloween multiple times, and we constantly have our own fanboy moments. I tell you this because like most of my Disney stories the importance of the role of Star Wars in my life comes back to family. When we went as a family to Disney World the first time, I had the pleasure of bringing my brother on his first trip to see The Parks, and, you got it, it was a Star Wars Weekend and the three McDaniel boys could hardly get on Star Tours fast enough. How amazing now that two of my passions come full circle together.

As I promised last week, I have returned from the Studios for the “Star Wars” Weekend annual event. This time I have pictures from both the parade and the “Carbon Freeze Me” Chamber. Please enjoy the pics, I will attend the last weekend and will post if anything new happens. Enjoy!
Perhaps no sci-fi genre franchise has been as popular or continues to draw in new, rabid fans as Star Wars. Conceived by director/producer George Lucas, the first film “Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope” released on May 25, 1977 and the following five sequels are a phenomenal success story. Disney decided to create a new “simulator ride” attraction centering on the Star Wars universe. Disney and George Lucas came up with “Star Tours” – an action trip to the Moon of Endor, hurling guests through a fun-filled adventure, climaxing with an attack on the Death Star along with Rebel X-wing fighters before returning to the spaceport.
The attraction opened January 9, 1987 in Disneyland and here at Disney’s Hollywood Studios (then known as Disney’s MGM Studios) on December 15, 1989. After a wildly successful run, Disney decided that a total re-hab of the attraction was needed. Using new high-tech 3D graphics and high definition not available in the beginning, the new “Star Tours” is leaps and bounds ahead of the original. And what makes this new adventure even more Magical is that there are at least 50 different scenarios, so guests will get a different “tour” every time they ride. According to Disney, you would have to ride at least four hours in a row to experience every different trip!
Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The moment you step through the gates you just feel like you’re in Hollywood. From the music to the citizens of Hollywood running around, it’s the closest thing I can think of to actually being there. It’s a great park for teens because of the thrill rides, shows, and stunts you’ll see there. Here is my list of the best attractions for teens in Disney’s Hollywood Studios!
Size matters not. Look at me. Judge me by my size, do you? – Yoda
I am sure most of you knew who said that quote. The melding of 2 forces–Disney and Star Wars–is something out of this galaxy.
Star Tours is a motion simulator attraction currently operating at Walt Disney World, Tokyo Disneyland, Disneyland Park, and Disneyland Paris. The ride is based on the successful Star Wars film series created by George Lucas, making it the first Disney attraction based on a film produced by another company.
Recently, an announcement has been made regarding the Star Wars characters who will be featured in the upcoming attraction Star Tours 2. The list, announced by the Disney Parks Blog, includes the two new droids, AC-38, theSpokesbot Aly San San, and the already announced R2-D2 and C3PO. The word going around is that C3PO, through an uncertain turn of events, will actually be piloting the Starspeeder!
