When I asked my son what he wanted to do for his birthday, he said that he wanted to go see Tron: Legacy. Naturally, I was proud of my NDS and, in true Neurotic Disney Dad fashion, I borrowed the original Tron from a friend. We made it a day of Tron. With breakfast we watched Jeff Bridges and Bruce Boxleitner act out the original film, and, after lunch, we saw the sequel over popcorn.
Disney fans from all walks of life love to wear apparel and show off their inner Disney love on the outside. New Era, a baseball cap company, is helping with that with a line of Disney merchandise for men, women and children. There are baseball caps that have some team letters and symbols with Mickey sitting next to them and there are other hats that are strictly Disney related, including ones called “The Mad Doctor,” “Mickey’s Rival,” “Lonesome Ghosts” and “Thru the Mirror,” all of which were early shorts featuring Mickey Mouse. While browsing the site, I even found a Tron: Legacy cap, as talked about in a post last week by John M, and one for Epic Mickey as well. The Disney Parks Blog announced last week about a new addition to California Adventure in Disneyland. With the excitement building for the release of TRON: Legacy in December, they will be bringing the excitement to life at night in the Hollywood Picture Backlot area of the park in the form of ElecTRONica.
ElectTRONica will be a nighttime dance party, bringing the lights and technology of the movie to life for all who visit California Adventure. There will be music and food, a recreation of Flynn’s Arcade and an outdoor dance club. There will also be a TRON: Evolution video game area.
When I think of Comic Con, I think of lots of superheroes wandering around and news regarding Marvel and DC Comics. I was quite surprised to find out that there were a couple announcements related to Disney at the convention last week.
After a talk about the upcoming movie Tron: Legacy at Comic Con, a 3D video was shown with Johnny Depp playing is infamous character, Jack Sparrow. Depp talked about the upcoming film in the Pirates of the Caribbean saga, On Stranger Tides. In this film, which will be in 3D, Jack Sparrow will be searching for the fountain of youth. It was reported that the crowd was impressed by the clip, and were looking forward to the movie’s release on May 20, 2011.
