Jim Korkis and Disney’s Fort Wilderness Lodge

History paints Walt Disney, among his many artistic talents as one of the world’s greatest story tellers. And few would dare to dispute that. But coming in at second place would be none other than internationally known Disney Historian and author Jim Korkis. Jim is a staple in the Disney community, anyone connected with Walt’s world knows the man. But Jim’s main accolade is his knowledge of UNTOLD AND UNWRITTEN Disney history. Think back to the dawn of civilization. Long before books and paper, and even before written language, tribes of our ancestors sat around the fire, telling stories and tales of long ago deeds and happenings, passing the history of the family to the next generation. If not for these stories, the history would be lost forever.

DEAR BOB IGER…

. . . I’ve been meaning to write you for some time. As a Disney shareholder, I want to pass along an idea that I feel will add to Disney’s profits to the shareholders while also providing more value to Disney’s loyal customers.

There was a time when Disney re-released its animated features to the theaters every seven years or so in order that a new generation of children could experience these classics. This practice ended shortly after VCRs and other home video players became popular. The feeling was that since the movies were available to watch in one’s home, releasing the movies in the theaters wouldn’t generate enough revenue to be worth the effort. However, I disagree and humbly suggest that the Walt Disney Company renew this practice and begin re-releasing its library of animated classics into theaters.

FEATURED BLOGGER OF THE MONTH

The featured blogger of the month of May is Jessica Clawson, also known as Lady_Aurora on Twitter and NDI#21. Jess is an ultimate Disney fan, who writes here about current events. Her life is like a sponge that soaks up everything and anything concerning Disney.

Jess’s first trip to Disney World was in 2002 with her family. They try to visit every other year and make memories each vacation. On her last two trips, Jess was able to meet up with her online friends and do the things she loves in her favorite place ever. Sounds like fun was had by all! On her trip last June with her boyfriend, Chris, she made the most out of her last day. The Magic Kingdom was open until 3 AM that day, so she and Chris spent the whole day there trying to enjoy every attraction they could. At about 2:59 AM, they were on the Tomorrowland Transit Authority and were the only riders. Jess said it felt they were the only people in the park too. “It was completely magical!”

THE OTHER DISNEY PIN COLLECTIBLE

In addition to the Disney pins we’re all aware of, there’s another Disney pin collection that includes vintage and newer free versions. I’m talking about the Disney pins or badges from the days of the Mickey Mouse Club to the First Visit pins you can get for free today. Those Celebration Buttons come with wishes like Happy Birthday, Just Married, Happy Anniversary, Just Engaged, I’m Celebrating, My Magical Triumph, etc.

The Celebration Buttons can be found at guest services in every park at the Magic Kingdom and at the EPCOT bus station service center. When you wear them, be prepared for CM’s to wish you a Happy Birthday or Anniversary! Your pin can create some great conversations with other guests as well.

FEATURED BLOGGER OF THE MONTH

Ca’Sandra Phillips is our Featured Blogger of the month for April.  As a member of the Walt Disney World Moms Panel 2011,  she assists guests with all types of questions about Walt Disney World. She uses her experiences of visiting Disney without her children, while pregnant, while breastfeeding with an infant, and taking along baby gear and strollers to provide just the right answers.

Ca’Sandra visits Disney World at least two times per year because she lives in Atlanta, but mainly because she is a Disney freak! Her husband, a computer analyst and Disney fan, and her 2 children–a 4-year-old daughter and a 1-year-old son–are part of her trips and have taken quite a liking to the World as well.  She says,
