At night, Spaceship Earth is colorfully lit and makes a wonderful backdrop for the fountain show. When I took this photo in 2005, the “giant Mickey hand” was still attached to Spaceship Earth at Walt Disney World’s EPCOT theme park. The hand, along with the wand and the word “Epcot” was first installed for the millennium celebration, and had originally been labeled “2000”instead of “Epcot”. Naturally, the whole apparatus was the subject of lively debate in and among the various Disney internet communities. I personally thought the geosphere was iconic by itself and didn’t require further identification by labeling it “Epcot”. It was fun and pretty for the millennium, but I’m glad they finally took it down. CLICK HERE for a few more shots of EPCOT’s Spaceship Earth.
