JeniLynn was born and raised in South Florida. Being so close to Walt Disney World, she grew up regularly visiting the Mouse and developed a fascination with the creativity of Disney Parks. Noticing that her happiest moments seemed to always take place in Walt Disney World, JeniLynn began trying to recreate the magic of Disney in her everyday life beginning in her pre-teen years. Adulthood, sixteen years of marriage, and three children later, JeniLynn continues to lead a Disney Driven Life and diligently works to pass her love for Disney on to her husband and children. She has blogged for Touring Plans and been a contributing writer for The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World, and she currently co-hosts Orlando Attractions Magazine: The Show; however, her primary focus has always been with the community that has grown around her own site, The Disney Driven Life. Through these venues JeniLynn strives to help other Disney fans stay connected to the brand that has served as a keystone in her family’s life.

The following is the winning submission of the inner mouse creative writing ghost story contest, written by Katie V. (NDK#49):

Two friends, Violet and Rose decided to take a trip to Walt Disney World.  The friends arrived at the Animal Kingdom Lodge, and they started unpacking.  They talked about where they wanted to go.

Violet told Rose that she had bought Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party tickets as a surprise for her best friend.  So they decided they were going to the Magic Kingdom. It was late when they finished unpacking, so they had dinner at The Mara.

Violet and Rose found an open spot to watch the Boo To You parade in front of the Frontierland Shooting Arcade.  The bad part of that spot was, by the time they got there, the parade had already started.  They had missed the first part of the parade.

“Darn!” the friends thought.  “At least we can always get here early next year.”

They got to the parade right before Dr. Facilier’s band started to play.  As the float passed by, one of the band members went into the crowd and grabbed the friends.  He brought them onto the float, and there was a huge explosion of color and smoke!! When all of the smoke disappeared, the best friends were nowhere in sight.  What happened?

The two friends were knocked unconscious.  Two hours later they woke up.  They were all alone in a room–a dark room–tied up and sitting on a dusty, dirty floor.  Violet and Rose could heard nothing but the house creaking.  They were in a haunted house.  No, the Haunted Mansion!  They were in the basement of the Haunted Mansion.  The friends screamed for help, “Help us! We’re in the basement! Help! Help! We need help!”

“Be quiet!” boomed a loud and evil voice.  Dr. Facilier came into the room, followed by the Wicked Queen and Maleficent.  They paced around the friends and laughed at them.  The doctor glared down at them and spoke slowly.  “We took you because we want to make a deal–a deal you MUST take.  If you do not, there will be dire consequences.  Let’s start talking.  We want you to help us find the princesses and trap them.  Will you do it, or would you like to be the 1000 and 1001st soul in the Haunted Mansion?”

The friends looked at each other.  Violet responded, “We’ll do it, but only if you let us do it OUR way.”  The villains agreed.

Violet and Rose knew they could never hurt the princesses, so they called a royal meeting at the castle.  The princes all attended.  At first the princes didn’t believe the girls’ story, but they explained everything again and again until finally everyone believed the friends.  The princes were ready to help and decided that first they needed decoys and must start building princess look-a-likes.

Once the decoys were finished, Violet and Rose brought them down into the basement of the Haunted Mansion.  The villains circled around, looking the fake princesses up and down.  “Success!” Dr. Facilier laughed menacingly.  “Now what shall we do with you?”  He stood over Rose and glowered down, slowly walking closer towards her.

Suddenly, the princes stormed the mansion, rescued Violet and Rose, and chased the villains out of their evil lair!  The princesses and the princes were safe again and still together.  The friends have new friends–royal friends.  Violet and Rose were asked to live in the castle forever so they could enjoy the royal life.

Everyone lived happily ever after–except the villains!
