Princess Ami grew up going to Disney World when it was young and very small in comparison to today. It was a “World” that spanned only the Magic Kingdom resort area and the E-ticket was king! Disney World grew and Ami did with it, savoring every moment and change. Now that they are both knocking on 40, Magic Kingdom does its Disney magic with 3 more parks. It’s probably not a coincidence that Ami now experiences that new magic with 3 more princesses in tow. The girls are growing up addicted to the magic just as their mom did. Married to Prince Scott, Ami is gradually converting him over to the pixie dusted side! In addition to writing Disney infused blogs like and, Ami is a singer in her Virginia church’s contemporary praise band and a self-proclaimed foodie.

Before the “I do’s” are said, there are clues to this neurosis just begging to be recognized.  It is best to face them now, afterward it may be too late….

  • She has a collection of Disney movies that would ignite jealousy in an 8-year-old.
  • You hear him humming “The Clean Up Song” from Enchanted while washing the dishes.
  • She knows how to make the Mickey sign on the computer. ºOº
  • Everywhere you go, he finds at least one hidden Mickey.

  • She named her dog Pluto, her cat Dinah and her fish Cleo.
  • His car is named Yensid and there’s a bumper sticker claiming that his other car is a monorail.
  • Anytime the two of you are about to get off a bus, she says, “por favor, manténgase alejado de las puertas”–which is perplexing to you because you know she doesn’t speak Spanish.
  • The soundtrack to Wishes is on his ipod….as well as the music from the Haunted Mansion, Soarin’, Illuminations, etc, etc, etc
  • When she went to Paris, she was disappointed that it wasn’t smaller….like the pavilion in Epcot.

  • His voicemail tells you to “Have a Magical Day!”
  • She tells you that your 3 freckles make the cutest hidden Mickey.
  • His MacBook has a sticker of Snow White eating the poison apple.

  • Her ringtone is the conductor saying “All Aboard the E.P. Ripley for a trip around Disney’s Magic Kingdom.”
  • He knows that Donald Duck’s middle name is Fauntleroy.
  • She feels that a visit to Epcot far surpasses the educational value of a week in a college classroom.
  • He always takes off from work on November 18.

And the top clue:

  • The words “wedding,” “honeymoon,” and “Disney World” have been uttered in the same sentence.

If you have found yourself in this situation, there is no fighting it.  Your significant other will not change as there is no cure.  Your choices are: accepting, embracing or setting free.  Choosing to embrace this Disney Lifestyle will give you both years of joy!

  1. Great article Amy! I’m sure my DH would have loved to know how “neurotic” I am before we got married. But I need to ask how to make the “Mickey” on the computer? (just cause I’m neurotic doesn’t mean I am camputer-savy!)

  2. I know, right?! My hubby is probably thinking, “Hey, thanks for the late notice!” At least it is a happy neurosis that we have….it could be worse.
I will now indoctrinate you into the ways of fantastic Disney icons 🙂
On a PC you hold down the alt key while typing the numbers 1, 6 and 7. Then the “O” key; then alt, 1, 6, 7 again.
On a Mac, you press alt (or option) and the zero key º. Then O. The alt, zero again º.

    Have fun! ºOº

  3. I managed to hide my Neurotic Disney nature from my wife until after we were married, but I’m sure the warning signs were there if she had been paying attention. I can’t wait to show this article to her!
