If there’s a new attraction that has a lot of buzz lately it’s Star Tours 2, the highly anticipated prequel to the original Star Tours attraction.  The new ride debuts on May 20th at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and June 3rd in Disneyland but what exactly does Star Tours 2 entail? What’s new with this ride? What can we expect?

First and foremost, the ride system for Star Tours 2 will be all new.  The simulators are being enhanced to offer six axises of movement and the ride will be in 3D.  To make things even more enticing, the film you see will be completely random, meaning when you ride at park opening, you’ll see one trip but come ride again and you’ll see something completely different.  Disney promises 54 possible destinations and this means there’s lot of great re-rideability built into this ride.

Speaking of destinations, Star Tours 2 will take us to a number of famous planets in the Star Wars galaxy.  Whereas in the first Star Tours ride we tried to make it to the moon of Endor, this time we can visit planets such as Tatooine, Coruscant, Kashyyk, Hoth, Naboo and even the Death Star!  There’s likely to be more planets than that but just those planets we know about are enough to excite this geek!

You’ll be happy to hear that Star Tours 2 will see lots of familiar faces returning or even appearing for the first time.  C-3PO and R2-D2 are set to return in this updated Star Tours attraction as well as Yoda, Darth Vader, Boba Fett, Chewbacca and Princess Leia.  We’re also going to be introduced to two new characters.  The first is our pilot, AC-38 (Ace for short) and the other is Aly San San, our waitress droid that appeared in “Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones”.  It’s anyone’s guess as to what role any of these characters will play but we do know that at some point in your flight, none other than C-3PO will take the controls of your Starspeeder 1000.

Star Tours 2 opens later this month and lots more details are sure to flow in, so be sure to keep up to date with the latest Star Tours 2 news at Star Tours 2 Live!  We’ve got mobile apps for your iPhone or Android devices as well a slew of rumors, photos and more to browse.
