CONFESSIONS OF A DISNEY BRIDE-STACEY

Katie Z. (NDW#70) (13 Posts)

Katie grew up on all things Disney. When she met her future husband she knew that converting him into a disney fan was a must! After a few WDW vacations, Disney history lessons, and lots of Disney peer pressure, she finally had her prince charming loving all things Disney as well. After getting engaged in 2008 on a carriage ride through Fort Wilderness, Katie threw out the idea of getting married in the place where they shared their happiest memories. Two years of planning, and a whole bunch of Disney magic later, they had the most amazing Disney wedding on October 2nd, 2010. Now living at home in New England, Katie keeps the Disney romance alive in her home and is constantly planning romantic vacations to the world. She has her own personal blog www.makingmyfairytale.blogspot.com and is thoroughly excited to start writing for the Disney Driven Life.

Having a WDW wedding is a dream come true for many of us Disney fans! I wanted to get the inside scoop on a Disney wedding and decided to interview a very good friend of mine. Stacey and I met while planning our Disney weddings (which were about a month apart) and we’ve been best friends ever since. She had an amazing Disney Wishes wedding and most of her family flew all the way from England to share in her special day!

1.)   When did you decide you wanted a wedding at WDW?

Pretty much as soon as we got engaged! We knew we didn’t want to have a big wedding in the UK as it would work out too expensive. DH pulled up the DFTW webpage one day and we never looked back. Having our wedding in WDW was perfect for us as we love the place so much. We wanted our family to have plenty of time to save up, so 2.3 years notice seemed good.

2.)   How did you pick which locations you wanted for your wedding day events?

This was a really hard part in our planning but our coordinator & planners helped out a lot. We had a Site Visit about 18months prior to the wedding, and we visited 3 very different places; The Living Seas, The Napa Room at The Contemporary, and the Whitehall Room at the Grand Floridian. We wanted somewhere fun and laid back, but our venues we searched for didn’t fit what we envisioned. We went back to the planners after having a think, and decided that the Attic (which is located opposite Sea Breeze Point, our ceremony location) would suit us better. We loved how it overlooked the lake, and where we were planning to get married.

3.)   How was your interaction with Disney’s Fairy Tale Wedding Department?

Fantastic. We couldn’t have wished for a better service. They were amazing from start to finish – they helped us in so many ways to make our dream day. Our planner wasn’t just there for organizing the day for us, but she was also there for support. They helped make the planning easy, and enjoyable. On the wedding day, all of the members of staff involved were impeccable. My planner made sure the day went smoothly, and we felt like she was part of the family. The wedding was so fun, relaxed, and our guests said it was the best wedding they had ever been too! The day was exactly what we envisioned.

4.)   How did your family react to the wedding being in WDW?

At first it was a bit of a shock, and of course we had some comments along the lines of ‘Will Mickey be your Best Man?!’ but it was mostly excitement, something new. We gave our family and friends plenty of time to save up, and we had more interest in the wedding than expected! Everyone loved how it would be different, plus our guests loved that it was a chance for everyone to take a holiday and for everyone to be there at the same time.

5.)   What was your most magical memory from your wedding day?

There were SO many, so I will give a few which made our day so special. One memory that I will never forget was seeing my husband for the very first time when in the Carriage approaching Sea Breeze Point. We locked eyes and I focused on him the entire walk down the aisle (I did well; I held back the happy tears!). Saying our vows to each other in such a perfect setting was something we will never forget. Seeing Cinderella’s Carriage arrive with my Flower Girls was so magical, they couldn’t believe that ‘Cinderella let us borrow it for the day’. When the Dapper Dan’s serenaded our guests, when Mickey & Minnie arrived – so many magical moments were made for everyone! Something else we and our guests will never forget was when we were escorted backstage in Epcot for our Fireworks Dessert Party. We entered to huge crowds of people clapping and cheering us all – Our guests thought it was hilarious and loved it! Later that night, my husband and I walked back to the Boardwalk through International Gateway, and so many people were congratulating us while we talked about the day’s events. The whole day felt like the best dream ever. We walked back through Sea Breeze Point and a young girl turned around and said ‘Wow, Daddy look, that’s a real princess’ – Too cute!
