Bill has been a Disney lover and fanatic since childhood. He moved to Florida to be near Disney and has been a staff writer for Mickey News for five years. Recently, he added writing for WDW Facts, contributing to the Disney Food Blog, and blogging for The Disney Driven Life to his list of activities. All of this was a natural step for Bill, who spends three to four days of every week in Disney Parks either researching or simply taking in the "magic."

Last night I was invited to Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas party press event. Walt Disney World allowed each journalist three guest passes for family and friends to experience this, one of the Magic Kingdom’s most popular Holiday event. This separate ticketed party runs on selected nights during the Holiday season. The press event was a wonderful way for the media and its family and friends to experience a night of Christmas entertainment and a chance to celebrate the season with Mickey and the gang.

What can guests and their families expect at the party? Plenty of Disney Magic and Holiday events. Let’s see what’s in store…

On tap is a guest favorite, “Mickey’s once upon a Christmastime Parade” This wonderful parade features none other Than Mickey and Minnie dressed in their Holiday finest, leading the parade on their Christmas Float. Following are all your favorite characters, Princesses and their Escorts, Holiday dancers, and a personal favorite, Goofy on his Candy Factory train! And bringing up the rear is none other than Santa himself with his eight “Tiny” reindeer.  This always puts everyone in the Holiday mood. The parade is shown twice, stepping out of Frontierland at 8:18pm and 10:30pm. This gives you a chance to enjoy the other entertainment, and still catch the parade.

New to the Magic Kingdom this year is one of the most amazing and beautiful shows. Debuting in January of 2011, “The Magic, The Memories and You” Castle light projection show utilizes 16 high-powered digital projectors to showcase over 500 pictures of guests taken by Disney’s Photopass photographers during the day, and with the addition of Disney characters, Cartoon shorts and even Walt Disney himself, you’ll experience a kaleidoscope of colors and movement on every inch of the Castle. The whole Castle comes alive; it appears as if every brick and window dances in time to Disney music. For Mickey’s Christmas party, the show is re-named “The Magic, The Memories and You Holiday Edition” The Castle show starts at 9:15pm.  Mere description cannot do this Techno-wonder justice. For me, it’s worth the price of admission in itself.

What’s a Disney show without fireworks? Mickey has the spectacular “Holiday Wishes” celebrate the spirit of the season show on tap.  This specially prepared Holiday treat will keep guests enthralled as only a Disney Fireworks show can. The display begins right after the Castle projection show at 9:30pm, so stay right where you are! One of the most beautiful sights you will see is Cinderella Castle lit up with 200,000 sparkling white lights and multicolored hues, changing during the night. It makes an unforgettable picture!

Stroll over to the Rockettower Plaza stage in Tomorrowland and catch the “A Totally Tomorrowland Christmas “show.  Listen to lively music and rock the season in with Stitch and all your favorites.  This high energy show is presented at 7:45pm-8:45pm-9:55pm-10:50pm and 11:45pm. On the Castle Forecourt stage, enjoy another Holiday show, “Celebrate the Season”. Headed up by Mickey and Minnie, this lavish production will put you right in the Christmas mood as the whole gang and Disney dancers celebrate Christmas as only they can. The Showtime’s are 7:45pm-10:05pm and 11:20pm.

Families can also enjoy the Character Dance Parties; At the Diamond Horseshoe “Woody’s Hootin’ Holiday Open House” with Woody, Jessie and Bullseye. Over at Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Café’, the “Jingle Dance and Play” party stars Goofy, Pluto and Chip and Dale. Character Meet and Greets take place intermittently from 7 pm to 11:30 pm (Locations are posted on the Very Merry Christmas party map).

What better way to celebrate the Holidays then with cup of hot chocolate, special holiday cookies, apple juice or apple slices and watch the snow coming down! Throughout the park, treat stations have these goodies for your enjoyment. If your appetite is a bit bigger, you can order a meal on Main Street at Casey’s Corner, in Frontierland Pecos Bill’s Tall Tale Inn and Café (This will close at 10:00pm), the Turkey leg kiosk and Westward Ho, the Frontierland Churros and Pretzels.  In Tomorrowland, Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Café and the Lunching Pad are open. In Liberty Square, Sleepy Hollow is open and Fantasyland, Storybook Treats.

In addition to the Christmas festivities, select attractions are open for all to enjoy. Adventureland has Pirates of the Caribbean, Aladdin’s Magic Carpets, and Swiss Family Treehouse. Frontierland enjoy Splash Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, and the Country Bear Jamboree. In Liberty Square, the Haunted Mansion awaits. Fantasyland has Peter Pan’s Flight, Prince Charming’s Regal Carousel, Mickey’s Philharmagic; It’s a Small World, Dumbo and Snow White’s Scary adventures. And in Tomorrowland, it’s Space Mountain, the Astro Orbiter, TTA PeopleMover, Buzz Lightyear, Stitch’s Great Escape, Tomorrowland Speedway and Monsters Inc. Comedy Club. In addition to the entire above, special Event Merchandise is available in all stores. And remember to pick up your guide map at the entrance to the park. Here you will find all the locations of the shows, treat stations, character meet and greet and times.

There is no place like Walt Disney World for the Christmas Holidays…The decorations, Characters, snow on Main St. USA, the lighted Castle, Christmas Carols playing in the background, all bring to mind the old fashioned Christmas’ of old. If you can make the trip to Walt Disney World for Christmas, Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party will bring the family together and make the holidays seem brighter, and yes more magical than ever.
