Disney Movie Nights – they are just traditional. They usually involve pj’s, favorite snacks, blankets & stuffed friends. But, in changing times, there is a new concept of movie night…themed movie nights. I love this concept for so many reasons. It is more than just watching a movie. You can include themed activities, food, & decorations. Our whole family becomes involved. From planning, to decorating, to clean-up, it is a true example of teamwork & a great bonding experience.

alice in wonderlandThe inspiration for this week’s Family Movie Adventure Night came from my daughter. She bought Alice in Wonderland this past week and my grandkids loved it. It was also the theme for Tripp’s baby shower. It’s such a fun theme, and now that spring is in the air and winter is melting away it’s a great time to celebrate with a Mad Hatter Tea Party of your own!

Decorations

Tablescape – A blue table cloth with white placemat, a nod to Alice’s dress of course. I would use mismatched plates, cups and silverware – the more colorful the better. A pretty centerpiece of Gerber daisies in a tea pot would make the perfect centerpiece.

Caterpillar – blow up blue balloons and tie them together to make a life size version of The Caterpillar from the movie. Use a sharpie to draw the face and add feet.

Butterflies & Flowers – Make oversized flowers from tissue paper and add butterflies from the activities section.

Activities

Play cards – a nod to the Queen of Hearts, of course. Have the family play a game of cards, which ever game is your favorite.  It’s fun family time that makes great memories!

Croquet – set up a game of croquet in the backyard. It can be found at most department or sporting goods stores. The kids will this game and it’s something they can continue to play for years to come.

Tissue Flowers – Using colorful tissue paper make oversized flowers just like the ones you made in grade school. The flower scene from the movie is a fan favorite!

Decorate Butterflies – cut out butterfly shapes from poster board and let everyone decorate one of their own using markers, glitter, rhinestones, ect.  Use pipe cleaners for the antennas.

Food

Bread & Butterfly Sandwiches –Just makes everyone’s favorite, PB&J, chicken salad, ham & cheese. Then cut out with a butterfly cookie cutter.

Crudites – Cut veggies (celery, cucumber, carrots, ect) up into small pieces and serve with ranch or any other favorite dipping sauce. A fun way to get to get kids to eat their veggies.

Tea Cakes – A tea party staple, these cookies are easy to make and everyone loves them!
