Disney Movie Nights – they are just traditional. They usually involve pj’s, favorite snacks, blankets & stuffed friends. But, in changing times, there is a new concept of movie night…themed movie nights. I love this concept for so many reasons. It is more than just watching a movie. You can include themed activities, food, & decorations. Our whole family becomes involved. From planning, to decorating, to clean-up, it is a true example of teamwork & a great bonding experience.

Good Dinosaur 3D CombopackThe Good Dinosaur was one of my favorite movies from last year. It was a wonderful movie that had just a little bit of everything: fun, adventure, excitement, sadness and hope. The message of leaving your mark was a powerful one that we use at home. With the release of this movie on Blu-Ray/DVD, I thought a fun movie night was definitely in order!

We love to prepare for our movie night first, watch the movie with dinner/dessert, and watch the bonus features afterwards. The bonus features on this release are fun! The Deleted Scenes offer a bit more of the story, including a few ideas that were completely changed. This led to great discussions with the kids about how the story could have been and which idea was better. I love the interaction and discussions we can have over bonus features!

Also included in the extras are Hide and Seek, fun dinosaur themed extras and my favorite new short, Sanjay’s Super Team. This is one movie that should be in everyone’s home collection. PS – it’s also perfect sized for an Easter basket!

Keep it simple for a Good Dinosaur movie night. Green colored decor will keep you feeling that you are in the great wide open. Pull out those plastic dinosaurs that you have in the closet (doesn’t everyone own a tub of dinosaurs?). They work great for table decor and atmosphere! Or, keep the prehistoric feeling alive with a picnic on the floor!

In keeping it simple, we went with with finger foods. And, of course, you can’t have a dinosaur movie night without dinosaur chicken nuggets! Because Arlo’s family harvested corn, we served corn on the cob with our dinner. Grapes are another great food to add. Finger foods will keep the prehistoric feeling! PS – Ice cream cones make a fun finger food dessert!

Everyone should be able to earn their mark. They may not be building silos or chasing adventure out in the wild, but everyone can contribute with dinner. A great way to leave their mark for your family dinner would be place cards that say “Corn on the Cob served by Jennifer,” “Table Decorations by Joe,” – you get the idea! Don’t forget there are fun FREE printables you can have on hand to entertain the kids, too!

No matter what you do, remember to have fun. These are the moments that memories are created and we leave our marks as parents!
