2017 brings new adventures awaiting us. But there are three particular movies that I am excited for. Maybe you are excited for the same ones as me!
Beauty and the Beast: This live action film stars Emma Watson as Belle, Dan Stevens as the Beast and Kevin Kline as Belle’s father. If this movie packs half the magical spectacle as Cinderella (directed by Kenneth Branagh) did, then we are in for a feast of grand proportions. Disney has been highly successful with its live action films of late and Beauty is gearing up to be one of the top grossing films of the year. Can’t miss moments will be: seeing the re-imagined figures of Lumiere, Cogsworth and Mrs Potts; the ballroom scene with Belle in her signature yellow dress; and the final transformation of the Beast to the handsome prince.
Cars 3. Looks like Lightning McQueen is out the race, for good. What will that mean for his future since he lives for the thrill of competition? Owen Wilson returns, as well as Larry the Cable Guy, Bonnie Hunt and Cheech Marin. There’s a new character being added to the car lot: Cruz Ramirez. Looks like she’s going to be the new, young, up and coming racer and will turn to Lightning for sage advice. I’d like to see that!
Star Wars Episode VIII. At this writing, it will be whole year away but certainly worth the wait. Returning will be our new favorites: Adam Driver as Kylo Ren; Daisey Ridley as Rey; John Boyega as Finn; Oscar Isaac as Poe. We’ll finally see more of Mark Hamill as Luke. I’m hoping Rey managed to coax him off that precarious hilltop. I’m also looking forward to seeing Carrie Fisher as Leia. Wondering if she will find her long lost son and what she will say to him. (postscript: Carrie Fisher past away decades before her time was due. She still had yet to contribute to our lives. I’m deeply saddened about her death. Many know her only through her work on Star Wars. Many more know her as an author of several books. Carrie Fisher was an outspoken advocate on mental health. She could have done so much more and yet there wasn’t enough time. Rest in peace General Leia. Our memory of you will keep your light.)
What movies are you looking forward to in 2017?
Letty has loved all things Disney since she was child. Her first visit to the world was back in 1978. Since then she has returned as a spring break college student; as a young woman traveling with her boyfriend (now husband); and her last visit as a wife and mother of twin girls. Every trip was magical. Keeping her Disney fix between visits, she immerses herself researching all she can about the Disney Company. She reads about resort operations, movie profits, cruise lines, theatrical productions, merchandise, and global operations. She looks forward to sharing her research about this company that has created magic for generations.
