Returning to work from the holidays, a coworker spotted my Mickey Mouse necklace. As the Disney nut around the office, I am typically always sporting something related to our home away from home. But this piece, for some reason, stuck out to her. I smiled and said it was a gift from my husband two Christmas’s ago. It also happens to be one of my favorite pieces he has every given me. When she asked me what was so special about it–other than the fact it was Disney–I didn’t have to think twice to answer.
No, it is not the most expensive jewelry piece you can get and it is not the largest either. But I had spotted it on a trip that previous summer and fell in love with it. The problem was, when I went back to the Emporium at Magic Kingdom, it was already gone. I searched throughout all four parks, and even made special trips to certain resorts that claimed they had them in stock, but to no avail. The tiny silver necklace seemed to be the biggest hit of the summer. I left that trip heartbroken.
Turns out, my husband worked some Disney magic of his own, as he constantly searched the Disney store site, the app and called to check in with whoever he could at Walt Disney World to check if they had it in stock once more. Routinely, he was told no, and the online store was of no help either. Still, he was determined. He knew somehow with a little luck it would work, and if nothing more he was going to give it his all before giving up.
And then one time, they had it. Disney magic worked in his favor. I remember opening that little box; you would have thought he was asking me to marry him all over again. Yes, I was that excited about. To me, it wasn’t just a Mickey head on a chain. To me, this man went out of his way to ensure I got something I truly wanted. It was joy. It was happiness. It was Mickey, Minnie, Walt and everything the trio represents.
It was love.
