Approximately 200 attendees dined on farm-to-table fare prepared by more than 20 Disney chefs at the sixth annual Field to Feast event. Sponsored by Edible Orlando and held at Scott & Long Farms in Zellwood, Fla., Field to Feast raised $28,000 for Second Harvest Food Bank’s Kids Cafe, an after-school meal service program that provides food to needy children in Orange, Seminole and Osceola counties.
Paired with Disney’s ongoing commitment to Second Harvest with an annual $65,000 grant, a collective total of more than $100,000 was invested in their mission of fighting hunger by feeding hope.
From Food & Beverage locations at the theme parks and resorts to Disney Springs and everything in between, Field to Feast is supported by a wide variety of Cast Member VoluntEARS who help to bring this event to life each year.”
“I am so proud to be involved in this incredible event that helps support a wonderful organization like Second Harvest Food Bank,” said Chef Leonard Thomson of Disney Park Event Operations and Premium Events who handles the logistics for Field to Feast. “All of the chefs and sommeliers worked together to create specialty dishes and beverage pairings using local ingredients and were able to share a bit of the Disney magic in a relaxed and casual farm setting.“
“We want to thank all of the Disney team and chefs who make this event possible, and we are even more thrilled with the continued support Walt Disney World Resort provides us each year,” said Dave Krepcho, president and CEO of Second Harvest Food Bank.
Walt Disney World Resort has supported Second Harvest Food Bank and their subsidiaries for more than 25 years, investing cash and in-kind donations to a variety of the organizations’ programs. Last year, Second Harvest received a $100,000 Disney Grant to directly fund their Teen Nutrition programming, which brings nutritious and complementary foods to secondary school students who need it most. Additionally, the Disney Harvest program delivers prepared and unserved food collected from across Walt Disney World Resort to Second Harvest-supported agencies, servicing up to 1,000 children and families each week.
