Rugrats: The Complete Series (review)

The ‘90s biggest babies are back in this epic collection of Rugrats featuring all 9 seasons! It’s so hard to believe that the Rugrats are celebrating 30 years! It seems like just yesterday when my older kids were watching this show on Nickelodeon and playing with their Rugrats dolls. If you were a 90’s kid(or parent of one), this is one collection you may want! The nostalgia from the theme song was enough for this momma. Rugrats provided a 30 minute block where all 3 of my own personal rugrats sat still enough (without fighting) and enjoyed something together. When I was asked if I would like to review this set, I jumped at the chance! I can’t wait to share this with my older kids(and my teenager).

Rugrats the Complete Series is a giant, 26-disc collection features all 9 seasons, from 1991-2006. Each season is spread out over multiple DVDs and totals 67 hours and 14 minutes total run time. That’s a LOT of Rugrats to watch. The DVD case is large, with the discs organized by seasons, double stacked. There was no insert with the package I received, just the DVDs. The inside cover image does feature a letter from “your favoristeist baby, Tommy,” but is hard to see unless you remove the image or take out all of the DVDs.

Rugrats features the voice talents of E. G. Daily (“The Powerpuff Girls”) as Tommy, Tara Strong (“The Fairly Odd Parents”) as Dil, Nancy Cartwright (“The Simpsons”) as Chuckie, Kath Soucie (“Danny Phantom”) as Phil and Lil, Cree Summer (“Robot Chicken”) as Susie, Cheryl Chase (“All Grown Up!”) as Angelica.

The bonus content offered in this complete set boasts a total of 4 hours and 40 minutes of extra featurettes. These are:

Runaway Reptar
All Growed Up
Babies in Toyland
Tales from the Crib: Snow White
Tales from the Crib: Jacks & a Beanstalk

These were originally special episodes featured during the regular season, except for Tales from the Crib. These were direct to DVD specials. These all can be found on disc 4 of season 9. I always appreciate a collection with great bonus features. I would say that these features are underwhelming. While this is a collection of the series, I can understand movies not being included with this set, but no commentary or specials featuring the story behind how the Rugrats came to be? It would have been great to hear from creators Arlene Klasky, Gabor Csupo and Paul Germain. I feel that this would have added to the value of this vast collection.

I found this video on the official Nickelodeon Cartoon Universe YouTube channel, and had to share it with you. Something like this would have been a fun bonus feature.

Overall, you cannot go wrong with 26 discs of Rugrats for $60. This collection is definitely one for kids and grown ups everywhere. Rugrats the Complete Series is available now.
