I am going to be 100% honest with you. I have a huge soft spot for the Addams Family. And that soft spot includes every version of this creepy, kooky family – the tv show, the cartoon(did you know there was a cartoon?), the 1990 movies, and the latest animated films. You may find this review biased, unless you, too, may be a fan of the mysterious and spooky. So let’s chat about Addams Family 2, spoiler free of course.
About the Movie
Everyone’s favorite spooky family is back in the animated comedy sequel, The Addams Family 2. In this all new movie we find Morticia and Gomez distraught that their children are growing up, skipping family dinners, and totally consumed with “scream time.” To reclaim their bond they decide to cram Wednesday, Pugsley, Uncle Fester and the crew into their haunted camper and hit the road for one last miserable family vacation. Their adventure across America takes them out of their element and into hilarious run-ins with their iconic cousin, It, as well as many new kooky characters. What could possibly go wrong?
The Cast
The Addams Family 2 voice cast features Oscar Isaac, Charlize Theron, Chloë Grace Moretz, Nick Kroll, Javon ‘Wanna’ Walton, Wallace Shawn, Snoop Dogg as ‘IT’, Bette Midler and Bill Hader. It’s hard to go wrong with this star studded ensemble.
The Music
The Addams Family venture out on a road trip style family vacation. Everyone knows that road trips require just the right playlist. Addams Family 2 created the perfect mix of music for this vacation. Addams Family 2 safe for kids?
Addams Family 2 is rated PG for macabre and rude humor, violence and language. Overall, the rude humor and violence is minimal and on par for an Addams Family movie. There was one instance of “potty humor” that involved Uncle Fester mentioning using the bathroom while heading to the water while at the beach. But overall, if your children saw the first Addams Family in 2019, they will be fine with this one.
Overall
The Addams Family 2 is the family movie you need to see as we get ready to begin the holiday season. The Addams are a relatable family – a tween that is embarrassed by her family and is looking to establish her own path in this world, parents that notice their children are maturing, a crazy uncle, the kid that wants to blow everything up. Watching Morticia and Gomez navigate parenthood in modern times is hilarious and a great reminder to us all that family is everything. Family has your back, accepts you for who you are and will always love you like no one else.
