Season two of 20th Digital Studio’s Bite Size Halloween, a short film series that ranges from horror comedy to psychological thrillers and everything in between, is now available to stream on Hulu. Created by up-and-coming filmmakers, these films will screen across digital and broadcast platforms Freeform, FX, and Hulu’s Huluween platform hub and YouTube channel.
Arbi Pedrossian, 20th Digital Studio VP of Development, says, “This is our most diverse slate yet and we are extremely proud of the filmmakers we worked with this year to safely, in the time of COVID, produce these excellent films. We know audiences will love these twisted, culturally relevant stories and leave wanting more.”
Bite Size Halloween 2021 features 18 emerging filmmakers representing a spectrum of styles, identities, countries, and backgrounds. Through both horror and comedy, these shorts take on issues such as race, gender, motherhood, beauty, sexuality, the environment, and workplace safety. The long term goal of 20th Digital Studio’s short film programs is to continue to guide and finance the growth of these artists’ careers and to transition some of the shorts into longer features. 20th Digital is currently shooting the first feature developed in this way, expected to debut on Hulu in 2022.
This year’s group of writers & directors includes Ann Marie Pace (Disney Launchpad Shorts), Kelly Fyffe-Marshall & Tamar Bird (TIFF Changemaker Award), Faride Schroeder (Cannes Nespresso Talents) and Ken Ochiai (“Saigon Bodyguards”). Additionally, three Academy Award® nominees are featured: Yalitza Aparicio (“Roma”), Eric Roberts (“The Dark Knight”), and cinematographer Robert Yeoman (“The Grand Budapest Hotel”). Troian Bellisario (“Pretty Little Liars”) and Charles Gould (“The Big Sick”) serve as both writers and actors in their respective short films. Also on screen are Rachel Sennott (“Shiva Baby”), Virginia Newcomb (upcoming “The Beta Test”), Andrea Londo (“Narcos”), Brianna Baker (“9-1-1: Lone Star”) and Caitlin Gerard (“American Crime”).
Continuing a partnership now in its third iteration, select films feature Mars candy integrations and/or will air on broadcast networks Freeform, FX, and FXX with sponsorship from Twix, Skittles and Snickers.
Formerly Fox Digital Studio, 20th Digital Studio’s short film series previously titled Bite Size Horror, was released during the 2017 Halloween season and aired on broadcast and online, winning the Best of the Best in Short-Form Fiction by the 2018 Brand Film Festival. The series returned in 2020 and debuted on Hulu. This cinematic collaboration of adrenaline-raising shorts developed a platform for brands and advertisers to work with creative filmmakers.
