Looking for that perfect holiday movie that will entertain the entire family? Sing 2 is the movie you need to see. When I saw the original Sing in theaters 5 years ago, I fell in love. It was the movie I needed that year. It has become my “go-to” movie when I feel like I need a pick-me up. The positive messages and fun soundtrack always put me back on track. The announcement of a sequel had me excited for more, but worried. Sequels usually do not have good track records. And just how far can you go with an animated, singing animal movie?
Well, as Buster Moon always says, “Don’t let fear stop you from doing the thing you love.”
Illumination did just that. They were not afraid to continue making fun, positive, family-friendly movies. Sing 2 is in theaters today, and it is the movie your entire family needs to see this holiday season. Sing 2 is not a complicated movie with action, adventure or an incredible plot twist, but it is a simple, predictable feel good movie that you will want to see again. Sing 2 is full of cute, fuzzy animals with one thing in mind – being the best they can be. Sing 2 focuses on positive messages and overcoming normal insecurities that we have, at one point or another, encountered in our lives. I’m not sure you can ask for more than that when it comes to an animated, singing animal movie.
I was invited to a screening of Sing 2, and I can tell you there are so many reasons to see this movie. Here are 7 reasons that I have picked directly from the movie:
- “Do you think you are good enough?” – Sing 2 reminds us that we have to believe in ourselves before anyone else will.
- “Only when we suffer can we be great.” – You have to hit those negatives and challenges to rise above.
- Rollerskating neon flamingos – Well, this IS an animal movie, of course there has to be some flair. Am I right?
- “You always have a choice, you just need guts.” – Sing 2 reminds us that we always have choices, but sometimes you have to take that leap of faith and have the guts to do what you want.
- “Dream Big Dreams” – There was a saying in the original Sing that has always stayed with me. “You know what’s great about hitting rock bottom, there’s only one way left to go, and that’s up!” Dream those big dreams. It’s ok if you fall, because you will always get back up.
- Family Friendly – Illumination does a very good job of keeping their movies family-friendly with no vulgar language or innuendos of any kind.
- Your Song Saved My Life – As a person who has always used music to heal, the soundtrack to Sing 2 is perfect. Can we talk about the new U2 song, Your Song Saved My Life? U2 really hit all the feels with this one. It focuses on how important music really is and how it can shape your life. Be sure to check out the video of Bono, The Edge and Garth Jennings on how this song came to be. The rest of the soundtrack is equally amazing and very well done.
Sing 2 is the perfect movie for the entire family. Will your family be seeing Sing 2 this holiday season?

This holiday season, the new chapter in Illumination’s smash animated franchise arrives with big dreams and spectacular hit songs as the ever-optimistic Buster Moon and his all-star cast of performers prepare to launch their most dazzling stage extravaganza yet …all in the glittering entertainment capital of the world. There’s just one hitch: They first have to persuade the world’s most reclusive rock star—played by global music icon Bono, in his animated film debut—to join them.
Buster (Oscar® winner Matthew McConaughey) has turned the New Moon Theater into a local hit, but Buster has his eyes on a bigger prize: Debuting a new show at the Crystal Tower Theater in glamorous Redshore City.
But with no connections, Buster and his cast—including harried mother Rosita (Oscar® winner Reese Witherspoon), rocker Ash (Scarlett Johansson), earnest Johnny (Taron Egerton), shy Meena (Tori Kelly) and, of course, provocateur Gunter (Nick Kroll)—have to sneak their way into the world-famous Crystal Entertainment offices, run by ruthless mogul Jimmy Crystal (Emmy winner Bobby Cannavale).
In a desperate attempt to get Mr. Crystal’s attention, Gunter spontaneously pitches an outrageous idea that Buster quickly runs with, promising that their new show will star rock legend Clay Calloway (Bono). Problem is, Buster has never met Clay, an artist who shut himself away from the world more than a decade ago after the loss of his wife. Even worse, Buster has failed to realize that Mr. Crystal is an egocentric gangster who would rather drop somebody off the roof of a building than be lied to.
As Gunter helps Buster dream up an out-of-this-world theatrical masterpiece, and the pressure (and sinister threats) from Mr. Crystal mount, Rosita’s leading role in the show gets ripped away and handed to Mr. Crystal’s spoiled daughter, Porsha, played by Grammy-nominated artist Halsey. Desperate to save the show, and his life, Buster embarks on a quest to find Clay and persuade him to return to the stage.
What begins as a dream of big-time success becomes an emotional reminder of the power of music to heal even the most broken heart.
Sing 2 is written and directed by acclaimed returning filmmaker Garth Jennings and features additional new characters played by music superstar Pharrell Williams, Black Panther’s Letitia Wright and comedians Eric André and Chelsea Peretti.
