Every season, the Orlando Rep Youth Academy works hard on a production. This summer, some Central Florida teens decided they were “all in this together” and joined the Orlando Rep Youth Academy production of High School Musical 2 Jr. We were excited to be invited to a performance on their opening weekend.

orlando rep high school musical 2 jrOrlando Rep Youth Academy performances are perfect for families to attend. They are family-friendly shows, with kids in mind. The show was approximately 90 minutes long, including a 15 minute intermission. After the show, the cast are available for a meet & greet and photo opportunities. This is perfect for younger children who may be interested in the theater to chat with these talented performers.

We were able to speak with one of the cast members, Lisa Wolf, who was part of the Wildcat Ensemble. Wolf, a 16 year old, told us about practices and the amazing people she was able to learn from.  She noted this show was her favorite to perform. Wolf would like everyone to come see the show because “it’s teenagers doing the whole show – it’s amazing. Everyone is super talented.”

We have to agree – this cast was extremely talented. High School Musical 2 Jr. follows the movie storyline, where the gang all get summer jobs at the lavish Lava Springs Country Club and features favorite songs from HSM2, including Sharpay and her brother Ryan, played by Caroline Brett and Luke Hope, singing Fabulous and a brief version of Humuhumunukunukuapua’a.

About the play

The gang is back for an action-packed summer extravaganza as Troy, Gabriella, and the rest of the Wildcats finish junior year and blast onto the summer scene in Disney’s High School Musical 2 JR. At the Lava Springs Country Club, popular girl, Sharpay, reigns supreme while the Wildcats get to work – literally! Follow our East High favorites as they face the realities of the adult world and begin to grow up. Friendships are tested, summer romances go haywire, and the meaning of success is redefined. This exciting production process allows young people to develop friendships, learn about theatre, and grow as performers and people through collaborating with Orlando area professional directors, designers, choreographers, and stage managers.
