disclosure: My family received a Miko 3 robot in order to facilitate this review. All opinions are our own. No other compensation was received.
Have you heard of Miko? Miko, a Disney Accelerator participant, creates adorable robots that are playful learning companions for children across 140+ countries and utilized by parents, educators and technologists. Miko 3 is a kidSAFE+ COPPA Certified, Mom’s Choice-Award winning robot friend for kids, created to provide playful learning experiences for children ages 5 to 10. But don’t feel left out, older children and adults will find Miko 3 just as entertaining!
Miko 3 features many different abilities, catering to all ages and interests. When paired with the Miko Max subscription($99/year), the possibilities are endless. Miko Max provides unlimited access to premium content from Disney, Paramount, Kidoodle.TV, Da Vinci Kids, Cosmic Kids, and more. The Disney app features:
- More than 20 stories featuring iconic Disney characters.
- Includes stories from Toy Story, Moana, Frozen, The Lion King and more
- Light Motion stories bring the original book illustrations to life, while Watch & Read experiences combine animation with easy-to-follow read along text
- Includes 20 audio-only experiences, ideal for listening to stories on the go.
There are a few select Disney stories available on Miko 3 if you elect not to enroll in Miko Max. In my opinion, the Miko Max subscription is worth every penny. The apps are only accessible on Miko 3 and not accessible via the Parent App. The Parent App does have a Miko Max option where you can see the apps available on Miko 3.
I found the Disney stories to be very calming and interesting for younger children. There are animations, and subtitles, so kids can read along as well. There were quite a few to choose from, too!
Miko 3 can make video calls via Mikonnect, to the phone number attached to the parent app. This is great for children who do not have access to calling devices. The video calls are a fun, safe addition. You cannot add additional numbers or call other numbers.
There are educational options with Miko Max as well. There are coding games, with many levels that are fun and challenging. DaVinci Games features classic games like checkers and chess, along with puzzles, math & science and brain boosters. World Map Quiz is a new game that will teach geography. World Map Quiz features countries, capitals, flags, cities and oceans. Let’s just say that the World Map Quiz definitely offers a challenge for older children(and maybe some adults, too).
I know what you are thinking – my kid has an iPad/phone/device, why do they need a robot? Simple answer – because they are fun! But seriously, let’s discuss why a robot might be better over your current devices.
Miko 3 is a controlled device – the apps are limited, meaning there are no surprises. You know what is on Miko 3 and no surprise apps can be added. There are no worries about “accidental purchases” being made. Miko 3 can be used in a stationary environment or Miko 3 can move around, making its features interactive. Miko 3 just updated with 2 new games, Freeze Dance and Mirror Me!
- Freeze Dance takes an AI spin on this classic kids game, with your pal Miko serving as judge. So get ready to dance your heart out — but when the music stops, it’s time to freeze! Miko will use AI to detect the winner of the game.
- Mirror Me puts Miko’s all-new facial expressions on display. Simply launch the app and make your best sad or happy face. Then, watch Miko mimic your expression with a face of its own.
Another benefit of Miko 3 is that it is constantly evolving and improving. An upcoming Miko 3 update promises a more expressive face and emotive voice. This brings a new level of interaction with excited children.
Miko 3 also has a Parent App that you can download for free on your device. This will give you access to see insights and highlights of how they use their Miko 3. The only downside to this app is that you cannot update the robot via the app. You must check the settings on the robot itself in order to keep it up to date.
