Trolls Band Together, the newest installment in the neon-glitter filled franchise from Universal Pictures and DreamWorks Animation, is finally here. Just when you thought Trolls had exhausted itself with two movies and multiple streaming series, here we are with another movie. But let’s be honest, you aren’t seeing this movie for the cute yarn-heads – it’s for the *NSYNC reunion. That’s right – Trolls Band Together features the members of *NSYNC AND a new song. But is that enough to sustain yet another 90 minute bubblegum adventure?
Yes, it actually is enough.
Let’s dive into Trolls Band Together, spoiler-free, and find out why you and your family need to see this movie over the holidays.
About the Movie
After two films of true friendship and relentless flirting, Poppy (Anna Kendrick) and Branch (Justin Timberlake) are now officially, finally, a couple (#broppy)! As they grow closer, Poppy discovers that Branch has a secret past. He was once part of her favorite boyband phenomenon, BroZone, with his four brothers: Floyd (Golden Globe nominated electropop sensation Troye Sivan), John Dory (Eric André; Sing 2), Spruce (Grammy winner Daveed Diggs; Hamilton) and Clay (Grammy winner Kid Cudi; Don’t Look Up). BroZone disbanded when Branch was still a baby, as did the family, and Branch hasn’t seen his brothers since.
But when Branch’s bro Floyd is kidnapped for his musical talents by a pair of nefarious pop-star villains—Velvet (Emmy winner Amy Schumer; Trainwreck) and Veneer (Grammy winner and Tony nominee Andrew Rannells; The Book of Mormon)—Branch and Poppy embark on a harrowing and emotional journey to reunite the other brothers and rescue Floyd from a fate even worse than pop-culture obscurity.

My Thoughts
Trolls Band Together really hypes the boy band era. There are many boy bands names cleverly disguised in the dialogue within the first 15 minutes of the film. This, along with a few other pop culture references, is for the adults watching this movie. Believe it or not, there is more to this movie than the inclusion of *NSYNC. Family is important, and Trolls focuses on that throughout the film.
DreamWorks cleverly keeps the Trolls franchise afloat with the ability to entertain all ages with pop culture references and bright, high energy scenes. The fairly simple, predictable storyline of Trolls Band Together, combined with a 92 minute runtime, leaves this movie enjoyable for all ages. But let’s face it, you aren’t seeing Trolls for the plot. You are seeing it for the music, super-vivid colors, amazing animation, laughs and fun. And I promise you, this movie will deliver all of that – plus a few surprises 🙂
Rated PG for some mild rude and suggestive humor, Trolls Band Together is a fun movie your entire family will enjoy this holiday season. See Trolls Band Together in theaters on Friday, November 17th.
