The heartwarming coming-of-age story, Brownsville Bred, is coming home exclusively on digital platforms to own or rent on October 10, 2025, from Viva Pictures. Adapted from her award-winning novel & critically acclaimed stage play, HBO Latinx Director award, and SXSW-winning director, Elaine Del Valle brings her raw and powerful autobiographical coming-of-age story to the screen.

In 1980s Brownsville, a sharp-witted Latina girl finds wonder in chaos—until her father’s addiction shatters her world. Over six transformative years, from Brooklyn’s streets to a reluctant summer in Puerto Rico, she must navigate betrayal, danger, and loss to reclaim her voice and the power of her roots.

The film stars Nathalia Lares (Sunnyland) “Elaine,” a spunky and imaginative Puerto Rican girl growing up in one of New York City’s most dangerous neighborhoods. The film also features Javier Muñoz (Broadway’s “Hamilton,” “In The Heights”) as her father “Manny,” along with Karina Ortiz (“The Walking Dead: Dead City,” “Orange is the New Black”), Summer Rose Castillo (“Alma’s Way,” “The Equalizer”), Susanna Guzman (Babes, “Manifest”) and Gabriela Amerth (Musica, Anxiety). The film is produced by Leslie V. Cohen, Adrienne Acevedo Lovette, Eddie Frente, Debbie Esko-Gold and Elaine Del Valle.

Brownsville Bred is rated PG-13 and is 94 minutes long.
